I will be endeavoring to imagine the Bard's plays as STO Foundry missions. The player will be an integral part of the missions -- not "performance" missions as it were. There are things to hunt, mobs to whack, the whole nine yards.

The plays have been "re-imagined" so far and are online/published now:

1) Romeo and Juliet as "Two Houses of Kapua" (Klingon) - Kahless Expanse

2) King Lear as "General Keeg" (Klingon) - Azura Nebula && Escape from General Keeg (Federation) - Vesper (Pi Canis)

3) Merchant of Venice as "Merchant of Mazar" (Federation) Pico (Sirius)

4) Much Ado About Nothing as Much Ado About NojtIgh (Klingon) - Ganalda

Note that a cross faction "story arc" can be played if the following missions are done in this order:
Incidental Contact
Much Ado About NojtIgh
General Keeg
Escape from General Keeg

Summaries:

Much Ado About NojtIgh
A Federation incursion leads to an invitation to a celebration ceremony by a band of Klingon warriors. However, their unique way of life is threatened by an act of dishonor which places the inhabitants of their home base against them.

General Keeg
You are summoned to the planet Kest in the Subra system (Omicron Leonis) near the Azure Nebula. Your first commander, now an aging General leading his House, is under pressure from his three sons to name a successor. General Keeg is calling on you to act as his arbiter, but will he listen? The competition between the sons borders on cut throat...yet there is a more ruthless Klingon afoot on Kest.

Two Houses of Kapua
It's just your usual boy meets girl, girl defeats boy in combat and eats his heart, story.
Beyond the Kahless Expanse the planet Kapua is home to two Klingon Houses. The traditional "founding" House of Kapu is being forced out by the more aggressive House of Mutargh. The consort to the House of Kapu is your aunt, she requests that you come to Kapua and aid your cousins from the depredations of the Mutargh.

Escape from General Keeg
(playing the Klingon mission "General Keeg" is not required...)
Star Fleet has received solid intelligence concerning prisoners being held on the planet Kest in the Omicron Leonis (Subra) system near the Azure Nebula. However time is of the essence since the prisoners are going to revolt at a fixed time hoping that Star Fleet has gotten their communication and will have a ship ready to extract them. Enter the Azure Nebula from Vesper in the Pi Canis block, act as point for Commodore Rawling's strike group, and with their distraction attack against a member of the Klingon High Command enroute to Kest - beam down to the prison location and bring our people home.

Merchant of Mazar
On the planet Mazar, the Ferengi merchant Antolo has put up a peculiar collatoral for a loan from his competitor, the Orion Hylock-Sar. The Orion himself is so consumed by his hatred of the Ferengi who have encroached on traditional Orion territory that he is willing to risk his entire worth, even his daughter, to crush them.
Antolo is using the debt to help finance an expedition to a newly discovered system that possesses Trellium-D deposits, the inhabitants are going to issue a one-time monopoly concession -- something that bigger fish than Hylock-Sar are also interested in...the Federation becomes involved when some of Antolo's transports are attacked near the Pico system in Sirius block.

Incidental Contact
The outpost on Omicron Draconis is requesting emergency evacuation due to nearby volcanic activity. You have been dispatched to do so, but you will have to skirt the Klingon front via the convoy warp corridor from Bomari in the Sirius block. Of course the war is not going to stop for humanitarian reasons...

I have to say that I love these ideas. Even better that their Klingon missions- which I think goes much better with Bard himself.

Will definitely try these out.

Oh and Macbeth is screaming to go into #3.

I used some Shakespearean references in some of my missions... it lends itself to most forms of drama very well...

Two plays have been "re-imagined" so far:

1) Romeo and Juliet as "Two Houses of Kapua" (Klingon)

2) King Lear as "General Keeg" (Klingon)

3) The Ferengi of Venus
Fixed it for you.

I plan on hitting all the majors if I can, if for no other reason than these are the most recognizable and contain meme's which are oft repeated.

I've attempted to preserve the form of the play's plot in a fashion which accommodates both the players POV and the highlights of the play from that perspective...without totally going "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern" if you will -- the player should be as intimate a part of the story as possible. (Example - the ball from Romeo and Juliet is represented by the "Suppression of the Helots" in Two Houses of Kapua...more obvious is the Edmund/Edgar/Gloucester-driven plot of "General Keeg")

Of course these explorations required some thoughts on the nature of Klingon (and by extension what makes them different from Romulan for future usage)...and I've taken the course of basing several Klingon House-internal issues as if they were Spartans...thus the Houses of Kapua join together to ritually suppress their Helots*

*Sidenote:

I purposely didn't use the Klingon word for slave (toy'wI''a')since it does not lend itself to communicating the idea and instead substituted Helot and Helotan. Anyway, this Spartan = Klingon POV lends itself nicely to the current STO political setup where the Perioikoi are the Gorn, Orions, etc. and the Helots are the war booty taken home to enrich the warrior's lands and his House's status.

The key part to this is the Spartan's ritual autumn "war" on the Helots...if that does not scream out KLINGON! nothing else in human history does IMO. It would be logical, and though it is not directly mentioned in the dialogue of the Two Houses mission, you will find boxes of weapons having been provided to the Helots. The image here is that without much warning these boxes are beamed into the central square, the normal Klingon garrison forts up, and the Helot population is left to defend itself, hide, or die. Of course the Klingons would do this because it provides challenge (and as is mentioned, if you are such a poor warrior that an armed Helot kills you then a service has been done the Empire)...conversely by decimating their Helot numbers it not only keeps that population "in check" it also provides impetuous to go out and procure more instead of sitting on your backside at home allowing them to breed surplus workforce.

One could assume that in this sense Helot and Helotan are references to a former planet/race that had originally been conquered and what we are reading in true Klingon language form is that their slaves are "being (like a) Helot." I suppose this would be more properly rendered as Helot'wI'...which on thinking about it I may replace "Helotan" with this as it still conveys the historical analog...could even be used as a slur or insult to fellow Klingons...hmmmm...

(The Romulans then would conform to the - of course - Roman example, something I hope to explore when I tackle Julius Caeser.)
If we had multiple choice dialogues and variant path outcomes I would've actually made the possibility for the player in "Two Houses of Kapua" to become the alternate romantic rival -- perhaps omitting the Count Paris analog character...or perhaps as the player being a third competitor.

I was actually thinking "The Ferengi of Rigel" ... Was perusing my Riverside Shakespeare compendium last night and it has these critical analysis forwards for each play. It seems like the two forms of merchant roles would be ideal to examine Ferengi vs. Orion practices...or at least motivations and beliefs.

MacBeth
does scream Klingon also...I'd like to explore something that goes non-Klingon centric for the third.

Well I wanted to give your first mission a go, but after accepting it I did not see which system I was supposed to go to. I read over the text again and all it tells me to do is go to "Kapua", but that is not the name of any sector/system. Please add which system your mission starts in, and please highlight it in green. It would also be good to put a note at the end of the description that shows up in the journal that tells what system the mission starts in. Look forward to trying it once I find out

Ok. I just tried to do your 2nd mission. The first pop up says "I was instructed to deliver this encoded message to you", but after you accept there is no pop up. The mission description tells you where to go, but it seems like there should be a pop up after you accept the mission?

Updated the OP with the start locations just to move things along. I'll take steps to make it clearer where to travel to in the immediate meantime.

Edit: Keeg is updated and published. The others have the appropriate directions afaiks.
