# 1 Tips Tricks & Questions.
01-22-2011, 06:56 PM
This Thread will be for all of us with little techniques, Questions and ideas for particular stories.

My Questions?
Has anyone got a great way to beam to different places on the same map?
Is cryptic going to give us a different option other than to beam for map transition?

I would love not to have to work beaming into every story I right.

So I'm nearly about to release my first Tribble Foundry mission. I've spent so many hours researching and working with the engine and after writing numerous scripts, maps, characters and story lines on paper and in Foundry. I just deleted all my content and now am working towards my first publishable Mission.

So my third Question is, does anyone have some advise on how to design the ending to of a mission. and what process is best for the publication and trying to get people to play it. I have a fleet in which aren't as very enthusiastic towards Foundry design.

Lastly, when Foundry goes to Holodeck, what will be the restrictions to players. Such as, will I have to pay more to be a Foundry editor or have to have completed the game up to a certain level.

Thank you for your Time.

Ps add on Question - how do I delete or get ride of (Prelude to a crisis ----take turbo lift to bridge) in the missions tap. I start My mission form Earth Space Dock Transporter Room.

And I thought we have a whole forum for just that...

I simply replicate the map creating another copy of it and let the player beam-in (or whatever transportation-method the story calls for) into a spawn point in the map-copy. Using more than one spawn point on the same map may have unforeseen effects on mission flow so as I understand it, Cryptic advises against it at the moment.

You can use map transitions and depending on how you have the player exit a map and enter another, you can claim the map transfer is anything from beaming up to taking a shuttle or entering/exiting a building. Just like Cryptic uses map transportation in their missions.

That's a difficult question to answer, but I think it depends on what your story requires and also what kind of experience you want to leave your players with. For the ending of my story-mission (Project Revava on Tribble) I chose to have a scene in space where your Officer comments about a particular tactic you (as the player) employed to resolve a dangerous situation, and I chose to let the player's Captain say something humorous that would hopefully resonate with players much like some of the comic relief endings to TOS/TNG episodes do.

First, you could post about your mission in the STO-Foundry forum, and also on starbaseugc.com and other similar sites. You could also talk to people in-game on Tribble and see if you can create interest for your stuff. If you see someone else doing the same, i.e. advertising their mission in zone-chat (or any other chat channel for that matter) you could PM them and offer to check out their mission if they check out yours. It works.

I think that is unknown and we'll have to wait for more details from Cryptic about how the Foundry will work on Holodeck. About mission level-restrictions, if I'm not mistaken the idea is that the NPC's you use in your missions set the minimum level player characters have to be at (or above) to be able to search for the mission and play it.

For example, since my mission uses Borg Probes and Drones, it is restricted to Rear Admiral Lower Half (Lv41+) characters and above.

If you're talking about the tutorial mission, I think you can just drop that one and if not, don't worry about it as Foundry-author characters are for mission-preview purposes anyway.

I hope this helped.

I hate starting new threads. Thought I'd try to share it as much as possible. I spend so much time sifting through crap I don't like to add to the clutter.

Thanks for all the help. That was perfect. Keep it up Lord Of Pit. You are one of my favourite Vets.

# 4 Help me publish on foundry
01-23-2011, 02:47 AM
Galactrix: You need to click "Become a Reviewer" in order to see unrated games. They won't show up in the public list until they get 5 reviews. From www.starbaseugc.com

[Okay so I clicked on the Publish let it up load then logged in and searched my project Title as well as Project ID. Couldn't Find it. Does a Cryptic Official Need to Play it First. Does it take a while to get to Tribble. Did I title it wrong. Am I missing a Publish Process.}

So found it but have duplicates?

ONLY ON TRIBBLE!

Welcome to The FIL Series.

Welcome to a tale of Klingon's, once again at the peril of there own instincts for war. The Klingon's have attacked the Sol System, home of the federation and it is your duty as a captain to defend the United Federation Of Planets.
In the 1st episode Your crew has been on service leave enjoying the relaxation of ship repairs at Earth space dock. You have just returned to space dock and want to visit the Tailor. You soon find yourself beaming towards a destined conflict with mysteries to be solved and a search for peace that puts the very fabric of your morals at conflict.

This is my first published adventure. It is the first episode of season one. I have decided to label my missions as FILS?EP? The first season delves into a mysterious character called Stevens and his story will develop throughout the season.
So jump into the Captains Chair and enjoy content from FIL.

Not sure you should stick a code in the title. It looks a bit ugly. I like seeing the list of missions as like a list of episodes in the Star Trek TV series, with exciting names. If you want to put a code or something, I'd add it to the end of the description.

Yeah I hated the code as it looked in the mission list. From now on I'll put it after. Cheers. I'm going to be doing either allot of different foundry missions or just extending the one I have. Still Experimenting. How'd you like the mission?

# 7 Update To Be Done.
01-23-2011, 04:39 PM
So these are my notes & outcomes from a friends first play through.

To be updated;
1.Edition of starting point green bold in mission text.
2.Space NPC Groups revamp.
3.More clarity on Space dock objective.
4.Ground NPC Groups Revamp.
5.Season Plot line, Transporter function rewritten.
6.Character Association Titles in Bold.
7.Objectives Revamp.
8.Move and Change of UGC guys Name to FIL.
9.Assess game play of fog visuals.
10.More Humour.

First Rating

Game play 3
Grind 4
Trek 2
Difficulty 3

Having a high DPS yield is good for this mission. Ground combat can be hard if you like to attract attention. VA's will find this a grind. Preferably for Captain Rank Players. Stevens is to be made more vileness in the next episode. Players don't hate him enough yet. But you will

I've already finished writing the next episode and a trailer is in production for the 1st season. So Quick get on over to Tribble and Check out my episode. Before I change an aspect you may love.

You may sit in my Captains chair, but don't touch anything kind of episodes. Laugh, cry, sweat and enjoy. I have so many ideas, so revamping this for Holodeck is not in the priority list. Season One may not be seen in Holodeck for along time or possibly never.

Not yet, hopefully soon, I'm sure you got a feedback loop. Hopefully, we can do it soon.

Hold on Timmy, That 2 questions....Duck, Dodge, Dive, Dodge and Duck.
First, How did your last relationship end? Long and Drawn out or short and bittersweet. Think of terms of a standard Star Trek episode, perhaps a smug look on everyone's face? Or did you Have a clear beginning, middle, that will lead to a clear end?

Second, You need to promote it. No, please don't spam this forum, but check out off STO sites. There are builders out there that are more than happy to play your missionand give you the harshest most constructive criticism. Just Kidding....your peers are invaluable in your creative growth. And Creativity is the antithesis of Criticism.

PS, your Fleet is a blah blah...

Mostly depends on the enemies that are spawned during the map, as of yet, if you are a subscriber you have complete and total access to the foundry, including all costumes available in the c-store. In the event that STO goes F2P, Subscribers, will likely be the only ones able to use the foundry....Hopefully the foundry will not charge for special sets to create missions.... If so, you'd probably hear a sucking sound out of CA.

Hope this helps, keep making missions, check out Starbaseugc.com on Web or youtube...

What does it take to get your mission played? Hm, maybe some dumb luck?
I suspect it will change once the Foundry hits the Holodeck. At the moment everyone is busy creating missions and there is little incentive to actually play any of them. It just doesn't worth the effort to pull in favours to get your mission played.

In the meantime, Foundry 101:
Noone play your mission without a clearly stated starting point.
Your mission description doesn't have that, I swear I've read it like 5 times. This usually earns you 1 star grades.

Also "...the United Federation of Planes will be conquered FOREVER!" WTF?

Thanks Highbone

“Hold on Timmy, That 2 questions....Duck, Dodge, Dive, Dodge and Duck.”

Love the humour. Got any content of your own I should look at.

My fleet is Anzac-Gaming.

Cheers Pendra37
Aw one star for my first mission, after knowing it is my first mission. But I deserve that.
I'm dyslexic, and was so dying to have someone play my mission. Refer to my previous thread about my future updates, but thanks for the edit.

From another thread at my fleet. Towards mission start. “Yeah I realise that big time now. Wanted to keep it a mystery. "Can't Keep a Suite Clean" visit the tailor at space dock. Will add more info to the intro cheers. “

Thanks for the feed back, hopefully have my changes up by Tuesday morning AUS.

Keep it coming.
