I have this amusing mental image of a small team of my crew sitting in a staging area with no shirts on, just waiting to be told if they're going to be Science or Engineering today so they can get dressed and run off to fix the problem.

There are only so many transporters available. I figure that's the "logical" reason why ships have that cooldown.

Actually it just got a buff, its a pretty nice shield buff now (focuses regen on the side thats taking the most damage, I think?)

Not sure of the logistics on that one, (how does an away team help shields?) but there you go.

This kind of situation isnt very different from say, when you get SNB'ed with your hull taking hits. Science team, or Engineering? You cant have the best of both worlds, and now you cant have the best of three.

It's the same reason why all "Emergency Power To X" and all "Torpedo: X" and all "Beam Array: X" powers share cooldown.

For balancing issues.

If not, you could load an Assualt Cruiser with five Engineering Teams, two Science Teams and four Tactical Teams and keep spamming them over and over in PvP.

It's the cross-ability cooldowns that are being debated. Five Engineering Teams steps all over itself.

The real issue with having them all on the same cooldowns has nothing to do with Tac Team, and more to do with Eng and Sci. The Breen Cruiser, for instance, can Energy Syphon you, Subsystem Target your shields down, and Subnuke you. If you cure any of the depredations you're hammered by the others and can't cure them thanks to the global cooldowns (worse with Subnuke as it will aggravate your cooldown timers and lock out Sci Team for even longer).

The problem with the Team abilities is they are each too useful, and are often your only response to a lot of scenarios. This is why no one would use Tac Team back in the day. It was okay but having Sci and Eng Team was basically mandatory, and Tac Team put them on cooldown.

Always been like this..

Hints for fighting Breen

1: shoot frigates at range (over 5k) if nessecary reverse.

2: shoot cruiser from the rear.. Move in behind them under cloak or evasive..

Easy peasy.. Like all other PvE

That's what I thought when I first saw it do that.

A bunch of Ensigns suddenly stop and change uniforms before taking on the class Team job, thus the cool down. :p

I'm thinking even the smaller ships would have enough crew to have separate teams available.

I always try to shoot the Breen Cruiser in the aft end, but game "balancing" mechanics on higher levels have it spinning like an Escort and I'm pretty sure these mechanics let it SNB you from the sides as well to make it "challenging."

I never had problems with them.. Once behind them, they die in 5-7 secs.. Captain level, RA level, VA level.. All quite easy.. Might be different on Elite.. I wouldnt know.

I think the point is not from a game perspective so much as a logic perspective.

I have no problem killing the Breen ships, just thought it was weird for all my teams to go cool down after deploying one of them.

I actually encountered Romulan Mogua or whatever deploying "Tractor Beam Mines." This is like the "Metaphasic Shielding" but much more silly. The Tactical Turret I got at launch and always mount takes care of these nicely.
