I just visited the Captain's Table for the first time and while it's funny how many familiar faces show up there the place is empty and, forgive me, a little bit boring.

I discussed it with a friend and had a great idea for it. Not sure if anybody has suggested this before.

Wouldn't it be a perfect place to introduce Iconic Character missions?

When you visit the place you get to meet the most famous captain's in Trek history, as it should be: Kirk, Spock, Picard, Riker, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Martok, Kruge, Dukat, Sela... the list could go on quite a bit...

Each of these characters would tell you a story if you buy him/her a drink.

And then you don't just read the story, you get to play it out AS Picard or Gowron....

This would give the Captain's table a purpose and make it the greates veteran perk of all time.

I bet loads of people would want to be Sisko during the Dominion War or Janeway lost in the Delta Quadrant.

A lot more people would buy the lifetime subscription or hang around until they get the 400 day reward to access it just to play out these Iconic Adventures.

Please, please, pleae make it happen!!!!

Impossible.

Legal department states that actor likeness is not allowed to be used. They were able to use McCoy and Scotty only because they're dead.

Even in the Foundry there's a warning about recreating actual people.

It would be a great idea up to an including the point that the captains tell you their stories - good thinking! However you cannot have access to mission that others do not just because you bought a life time sub, that's a bit silly.

Worf is in a couple of the missions, and it's a pretty good likeness.

30ish days until it's opened for a much wider audience for the 400 day veteran's reward. that would be a good chance to introduce something like that.
(I think playing as them is a bit ridiculous, but getting to see or play with them would be neat.)

Perhaps rather than deal with the whole 'likeness' bit being a legal no-no, why not have a series of spheres (no, not Borg spheres) - like they did in TOS - The Preservers I think... it might not make much sense to have them instead of the captains themselves, but it would mean it's far more do-able in terms of legal.

Other than that, I love that idea - I'd much rather play along-side the captain, than play as them - this might also link in somewhat to the whole 'holodeck' idea and mission-replay, so you can (in some form) re-enact historic battles alongside the captains.

They could even go so far as to put you in a ship of that era - however I'd imagine that would cause far more headaches for players, especially ones who (for example) get put into a Galaxy, yet are Escort captains...

(Would it not be possible to use something like a holographic skin for this? So you are in your ship - but you look like a ship from that era, as opposed to being IN a ship)

Like all the best ideas, this one will get lost if it is overcomplicated.

Drop all this nonsense about playing as famous captains and getting put into different ships whihc is absolutely never ever going to happen as it would suck up a huge amount of dev resource (like producing a new weekly series).

BUT, keep the brilliant kernal of the idea about being able to somehow interact with great captains from the past, listen to their stories and perhaps access a cutscene or two? That would be a nice touch for lifers without giving them something ridiculous like a new mission set that would have the rest of the community up in arms.

Surely that just applies to players and what they create, not Cryptic who bought the license?

As was mentioned earlier, it would not just be lifers. The 400 day award is access to the Captains Table. That would give the same access to longtime players. And why not reward the loyal players, whether lifers of long timers with some special missions.
Being able to play, or even interact with famous historical captains would be a nice perk.
