We post questions for next months ask Cryptic in this month's thread right?

So, Dstahl, you mentioned that holodecks were cut from the original ship interior release, but that we might be getting them soon. Will these be functional? Are there any plans to release holoprograms like Dixon Hill and Sherlock Holmes? How about a Chez Sandrine or Vic Fontaine's Lounge packs, complete with music playing, posted in the c-store (the price in the C-store would be used to pay for royalties)? Could mission replay be redirected through the holodeck? It feels eerie to talk to the same NPC's again and travel through sector space to the same locations.

I like the crafting updates, and the interior aspects, as someone who has been doing ship blueprints for ages, this is PERFECT for me

Also, Leviathan99, Sela's mother is Tasha Yar, remember she died in Season 1 of TNG, so.... unless its by a Q, not a chance of it happening.

However, one little nagging thing I have from reading this, is that "we want to do this" for the ships, it seems that its getting a little odd, but I am all for a case of if you use a "stock" ship, then you have an interior option called "Stock Interior" that is an interior made for that ship (say, if you go with stock Defiant, then you get the stock quarters, engine room, lounge, etc, as for bridge, open to all)

As someone who liked the idea of the non-combat explorations, the whole "Seek out new worlds and new civilizations" just to find "random alien of the week #32" or "Some random bad guys" being in all systems, kinda put a dampner on exploration, it just felt like a padding grind for chits to try and get a "little better gun" so I am all for seeing a newer exploration system.

However, I do want to know what you plan to do with the current Klingons if you add a tutorial, will those characters get an NPC that they can talk to so they can do the tutorial with like a month or so grace to get it done from it comming live?

Cleaning up the ammount of currencies in game -- now YES that is something I think everyone will be glad for, as in reference to the exploration, usually by the time you have "explored" enough to get some good stuff for you and your Boffs, maybe a new shield for your ship, the character has just got close to the new level, so the stuff is "not as effective" as it would be.

The Skill Points is something of a heavy area to get into discussing, so I think I will leave my comments on that to a main topic, but short order "possible no cap, or just a "this skill deals with all Cruiser classes" and streamlining the ship skills"

I have to say, looking at your ideas for PvP sounds interesting, though I do not PvP anymore, a case of that I have been an EVE player for years, and I fancy a game where every time I log in, I am not automatically in it, that and PvP in STO either ended up as "round over in 10 minutes" or "okay, time for tea and bed, as I missed lunch as well" grind after queueing for 3-5 hours for a round.

This dev team's attention and respect it shows towards the players and the Star Trek faithful is a major reason why I'm happily still subscribing to STO.

Thanks, and keep up the great job!

I recall a thread which we both posted in about players being able to retrofit ships. There were a few good ideas in that thread. I was wondering when the dev team plans on working out the details of retrofitting ships and if there is any estimate as to when you would like to see this in game.

Q: Malvegil: What's the chance of adding a Transwarp skill to go to Memory Alpha?

A: I've got one better for you. How about we put a crafting station on your ship so that you rarely need to go to Memory Alpha? That seems like a direction we may be headed very soon.
"Captain, I'm detecting a great deal of WIN in this sector."
A: Our lead designer is smiling with glee at this question. Yes. He is working on a Targ breeding game that *may* eventually allow you to have Targs as members of your away team. No promises though. Who knows, maybe he'll come in on the weekend and finish this.
How about a Targ Handler Kit available for crafting after you've reached certain breeding goals? When playing Fed I tell my away team to go after those guys first.

Could be Q. Could be in her age, she's had a hologram made of her mother that she can argue with.

I meant emotionally reconnecting and that's why I could see it specifically steering Sela to "see the light" and accept the Federation.

I think the Romulans as part of the Federation would probably require a lot of lore to make it work. I can see where Nimoy signing off on it would lend credibility from one side but I can also see it maybe taking a martyr, a patron saint... and I think Sela -- being both troubled and one of the people most opposed to an idea like that -- would be the ideal martyr for reunification.

If she were to have a change of heart, come to grips with her dual parentage, and die for it, even as Spock basically identifies reunification as his life's work, his legacy, something he'd forever see his life's work as tarnished without, I think people could be made to accept it.

Whereas if it just kinda happens, transparently because the resources for a third faction are too sparse, players will rebel and the forums will be awash with green blood and venom.

They might anyway... But if Cryptic could present it as a scenario that was the culmination and last wish of every major Romulan from Tomalak to to Donatra to Sela -- and the embodiment of Spock's life's work, I think you'd see people get onboard more, who'd see the folding of Romulans into the Federation as not only natural but emotionally necessary for the sake of the story.

My one curiousity is how the rewards for PvP will be reworked. It'll be hard to fix it so that cheaters and people just there to do nothing and get emblems are getting less, without punishing the people who aren't 'hardcore' about PvP. I've looked at the idea of PvP lately, to up my emblem intake per day. But I know that my chars are basically set up for PvE, and that I won't likely be entirely good in the PvP arena when I wind up in it. How will a fix to punish the griefers/cheaters affect me, as such? Since I don't intend to do either, but more than likely will wind up near the bottom (if not at the bottom) of the results? :p

Outside of that, a lot of awesome info

Two things I found... intriguing:

Quote:
Q: teralkaar: Do you plan to improve the game so that it has less zoning?

A: This is one of my biggest gripes about STO is that there are too many loading screens as you are traveling around the galaxy. We have already started to make changes where we can by removing small transfers such as the door to Admiral Quinn's office which now just opens to his office instead of sending you through a loading screen to get there. I dream of the day when we can get the entire existing galaxy into one big map. And if we can improve loading screen times and transitions before then, we'll do it.
Also:

Quote:
Q: scharms13: Have you thought about allowing players to "pilot" the ship from their bridge, or see the star field move outside the windows when warping to other star systems?

A: More than you can possibly imagine. Doesn't mean we'll do it though. One of my favorite questions of all time
I'm going to have to hire Dixon hill to figure out that last one.

Not a bad read....although my question wasn't directly answered. I would like to pose a follow-up question though. You answered a question by saying that an upcoming update to the foundry (season 5) we would be able to customize our ship interiors to our liking. Is that customization you hinted at just purely from an aesthetics stand point, or does that include functionality customization as well?

Whoa, that was an info overload. Very awesome.

As far as this goes:
Quote:
Q: Case_Wintermute: Will there ever be a revamp of the skill system regarding ship skills? Specially for Vice Admirals there are just too many specific ship skills. What if someone wants to fly more than one type of ship or even shipclass? It just costs too much points to fly 2 or 3 or more ships effectively.

A: We are discussing both simple and radical changes that could be made to the skillpoint system, and we are still deliberating on exactly how we want to resolve the issue you point out. One popular idea is to break up skillpoints between ground and space so that you don't have to decide which region to focus on. Another radical idea is to restrict the ship classes you can fly to your captain's class until later levels. This would mean that if your captain was a Tactical officer, she could only fly escorts up until admiral ranks. This along with a restructuring of the space skillpoint tree could lead to some clearer skillpoint choices later on in ranks. Just an idea, nothing confirmed yet. I'm interested what you all would think of this.
I would support the idea of breaking up ground and space skills, but I would be very much against restricting ships to professions. One of the draws that STO has is the ability to play whatever profession you like and then fly whatever ship you like. I believe restricting that until the Admiral rank would be a bad move. That would force people to fly a style of ship they do not like, and do not have fun flying, until the "endgame". That is one mistake some other MMOs make: a game should be fun from the moment you log in for the first time, not once you reach the end.

There is one area where ship restrictions would work. With CO going F2P there have been some concerns on whether STO would follow suit. Now, IF STO were to ever go F2P, ship restriction would be something I would expect for F2P players. In other words, a F2P Tactical Captain could only fly escorts, but a P2P Tactical Captain could fly any ship they desire, just as they can now. It's similar to how F2P CO players have their powers locked in, but P2P CO players can choose whatever they like.

I realize the above quote was only a radical idea and something that was in no way decided on for sure, however since it was asked what we thought about it, I thought I would give a bit of feedback.
