I would have guessed it might be a Star Cruiser. If you say it's more a Science Vessel with a more tactical focus, I suppose we could do what some people proposed (inapporitately IMO) for the new Vulcan ship.

Commander Science
Lt.Cmdr Tactical
Lt.Engineering
Lt.Science
Ensign Science

Turn Rate 10
Hull: 29.000
Shields: +20 %

3 front and 3 aft weapon slots

4 Science Consoles
2 Engineering Consoles
3 Tactical Consoles

3 Device Slots
No, thats not what I meant. I meant the Vesta is listed having Phaser Cannons as part of her arsenal in the novels and would make her unique among science ships.

I'd figure she be similar to the Excelsior's layout but tweeked as not to be overpowering. Which your layout seems to be somewhat acceptable.

My hope is that it makes it in as a escort rather than a cruiser. We have gotten a whole lot of cruisers recently and even a couple of science ships but escorts have sort of been left out in the cold.

Needs to be an tier 5 escort with a tier 3 variant, like the Nebula and Excelsior

the Vesta will not be a skin. It will be a ship.
It is also more advanced than the star cruiser and would probably have a ltcm science and a ensign tactical with a lt tactical a commander engineering since it is a cruiser and a lt engineering. something like this may be closer to what it would look like.

Where do you see this ship fitting in and what do you see her being able to do?
I wouldn't exactly say it is "known" that the Vesta will be in-game. It is on a list of possible upcoming ships in the Engineering report, but all that tells me is that they *want* to do it, not that they can or will. The Vesta has only appeared in books, and as such is not canon. I imagine some dealings may have to be done with CBS to actually get this ship in-game, just as they have to get even their own ship designs passed by CBS (remember the Star Cruiser being delayed?). That being said, it is one of my favorite ship designs and I hope it will make it in-game at some point.

As to where it would lie, I would have to agree with the creator that it seems to be a science/tactical hybrid of some sort. It seems quite a bit smaller than the Sovereign, to the point where I wouldn't consider it a full cruiser. I'm not sure where this ship would lie as it's main class. It seems more science-y than the current science-leaning escort (Prometheus), but more aggressive than the tactical-leaning science ship (Luna).

If they wanted to inflate its size, they could make this thing into another skin for the Star Cruiser, as it shares most of the structure points already. A Star Cruiser using the Nomad hull and Avenger pylons (iirc) can make a vague facsimile of the Vesta's shape, even though it's a lot larger than the Vesta should be.

What really defines the Vesta-Class is the Quantum Singularity Drive. It should have something similar to the Transwarp power that the Excelsior-class does.
