this is a hideous, horrible, and un original design of a starship.

It's barely looking like a sovereign that crashed into wall.............same nacelle positions, a saucer and a secondary hull which is attached to the naccelles, the only thing different is the angles of the hull, the angles of the naccele and maybe the placement points on the secondary hull, and anyone who argues otherwise is blind.

to me the best ship produced by the designers in a long time are the ones seen in first contact, akira, norway, some others and of course the defiant, which abandoned the traditional saucer/nacelle design, now that artist had balls.

Seems pretty reasonable. It could just as easily be heavier sci/ lighter tac, but we'll see what the devs think would fit with current ships. I kind of see it as a Prototype Star Cruiser, heavy on the experimental technology for its time but superceded by larger vessels for extreme-range exploration. However it's implemented, I doubt it'll be too much of a hero ship, but not everyone will get what they expected out of it. You can't expect a 40-year old ship to still be as overwhelmingly cutting edge as it was evidently portrayed in the books.

something I posted before

Quote:
I finished reading most of the Destiny series and am anxious to see the Vest in the game so I played with dream stats a bit, enjoy your stay

Vesta Class Proposal (Tactical/Science Hybrid)

Suggested background blurb for STO: The Vesta is officially a extreme range explorer, but unofficially its a quick response vessel performing holding actions along with the excelsior class until the fleet arrives.

Pros
-Only non tactical ship to mount cannons.
-Only federation ship that has high tier powers that can mount dual cannons.
-Has target subsystems like science ships, and buff feature when implemented)

Cons
-Looses a forward weapon slot (like a science vessel)
-Looses a BO power in favor of higher ranked powers
-Looses a console.
-slower then most 'real' tactical ships, but still maneuverable enough to use dual cannons effectively.

Impulse modifier: .20
Inertia: 35
Turn Rate: 13
Crew 550
Hull points: 27000

Weaponry:
Fore weapon slots: 3 (Any including dual or heavy dual cannons)
Aft weapon slots: 3
Has Science target subsystem ability.

Bridge Officer Stations:
Tactical: Commander (1)
Engineering: Lieutenant Commander (1)
Science: Lieutenant Commander (1), Lieutenant (1)
Total: 11

Console Slots:
Tactical: 3
Engineering: 2
Science: 3

Special- As slipstream is common on tier 5 ships, simply give her a reduced recharge or a increased run time, or if nothing else, transwarp (ala Excelsior). If a lower tier version is implemented, give it the equivalent of quantum slipstream drive like an admiral.

I actually like the look of this ship, and think this is what the Star Cruiser should have looked like. Since we didn't get this in T5, I'd like to see this as the T6 upgrade to the Star Cruiser. I think the BOffs should be

Captain (yes, captain, I'm an admiral, damnit) Engineer
Commander Engineer
Commander Science
Commander Tactical
Lieutenant Commander Engineer
Lieutenant Commander Science

No ensigns on my bridge. I'm an admiral. Admiral!

The other ship stats should be commensurate upgrades to parallel the awesomeness of my top-notch bridge officers.

I'd like it as a T5 escort/science hybrid to complement the Nebula and the Excelsior...

Advanced Heavy Escort
Weapons: 4 fore, 3 aft (can equip dual cannons)
Hull: 30,000
Crew: 750
Boffs: Cmdr Tac, Lt. Cmdr Sci, Lt Univ, Lt Eng, Ens Tac
Consoles: 4 tac, 2 sci, 2 eng
Turn: 8
Inertia: 50
Power: +15 weapons
Special Ability: Chroniton Dampener - AoE Slow

That reads like a Tactical Cruiser, not an Escort.

But the NX is a starter ship not T5 like the D'kyr. There is rumor that the Oberth will be the starter Science ship to round out the trinity (Miranda being sort of a middle ground workhorse).

I'm hoping the Andorian ship is an escort. The escort fliers haven't gotten any love.

As for the Vesta, it looks like it could work as a Star Cruiser skin. If that is the direction they want to go.

But I would like to see it as a cruiser variant with a Sci. LtC.

edit: and maybe a Lt. and Ens. Tac slots.
