So...is the Duty Officer system for specific officer positions? Like Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Operations Officer, Flight Controller, etc...?

Or is it for crew? Like, I have propulsion specialist team down in Engineering, a stellar cartography team in the science labs, etc...?

Or is it both? I'm confused.

For example, there's this post: http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...0&postcount=93...which seems to say that there are specific officer positions...but that bridge officers are different than those?

Am I being obtuse? I just don't get it.

Your BOFFs can both be a Duty Officer and a Bridge Officer.

In addition to that, there are supporting roles on your ship that Duty Officers can fill.

Boffs are bridge officers, the duty roster deals with department heads. IE Chief Engineer, CMO, XO, ect. Two different assignment sets.

So you're saying:

1) I have my BOffs as I do now.
2) Then I will also have duty officer assignments.
3) My BOffs can be duty officers, but they don't have to be? And being assigned or not being assigned as a duty officer will not affect them?

If that's true, what other resource of officers do I have to assign to a duty officer slot other than my BOffs?

Also, why would we keep "bridge officers" as a separate thing once the Duty Officer system is in place? One assumes a lot of the slots that would exist would be on the bridge...

the description can be confusing, seing as a "Duty Officer" refers to which ever junior officer got assigned duty for the day/weekend. It traditional has nothing to do with actual MOS(job) in the military. It refers to who is in command while the Commander, ( company, battalion, division, corp) is not currently on duty, such as going home for the night or weekend.

But the gist of STO duty officer is to give a strategic buff to your assigned crew

So the Duty Officer system is therefore NOT the system we've all been hoping for with which we get to assign our BOffs to specific assignments like CMO as opposed to them just being a generic science officer?

I should point out that the Dev's are still trying to work all the details out as evidence by this whiteboard.

The truth is, we don't know yet because the Dev's don't know yet.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Here's how it works:
  • Boffs can be trained and assigned to positions on your ship.
    • Chief Medical Officer
    • First Officer
    • Chief Engineer
    • Etc
  • There are separate NEW crew members that are your duty officers
    • These guys fill out your ship's duty roster and give you passives, crafting unlocks, etc
    • These can not be bridge officers
