im sitting waiting on the patch downloading on my (slow) 8 meg ADSL and i found myself wondering,,,why is it so big ?

the launcher says 1432 MB
that's 1.4 GB for what is basically a patch for a single quest !

i've seen entire expansions for other MMOs that have been roughly only twice that or so.

i only have 40GB or so left on my MMO iinstall partition :S and although its not all STO (there are a few others on there) at this rate STO will eat the whole drive by season 4 :O

what's going on ? this patch seems, as the thread title says, overly large.

There's a lot of fixes involved.

Also, most patches that STO releases are overwriting data. You're not actually adding a full 1.4GB to the game, more like 40MB at most.

As to the download itself, II only saw 57MB actually downloaded.

One tip is to keep your tribble files updated. A lot of patches have copy/paste scripts if it detects you already have the fix detected on Tribble, so that always helps.

Also, I remember when STO was greater then 10 Mbytes, so the game has actually shrunk as patches have cleaned up data.

You are actually only downloading that.

Look closely at the patch status text.

One line says patched and the other downloaded.

You are downloading 57Mb of data that effect 1.4GB of files present on the system.

Yes, keep tribble up to date. That patch took me all of four minutes. Total downloaded was 57 mb.

Not necessarily. I also just downloaded around a gig. That's downloaded not patched. Possibly because my Tribble wasn't updated, but regardless, the OP is not wrong.

ye the only problem with that Havelock is my posted concern, aside from the size of patches, was also about install size and if im not mistaken using Tribble more or less doubles it.
