I'd say its tucked in what appears to be a closed compartment. Why have it exposed if its not being used? :p

Exactly. If you look on the STO model there is a little Hatch there, that is where the nacelle is.

It deploys when MVAM is activated.

I think it looks better with the nacelle hidden until used to be honest. I agree it makes better sense to have it hidden/protected from damage when it is not in use.
