I seem to remember a lot of ship changes recently, pvp matches with the Devs on Tribble, Devs ingame several times. The Devís are very responsive in this game and anyone who says they arenít doesnít really take the time to try too hard.
I am not saying that itís not something that shouldnít be looked at but this is what you the Uber PVPers asked for.
Consider, if you will, how long BFAW was broken before it got fixed. What about the issue with Tactical skills boosting all Resists and other disproportionally boosting other Science skills? Remember when the PVP queues were broken for 3 weeks? And again recently when they were broken for nearly a week? I'm not disagreeing with you actually. I'm sure they are busy and yes they are responsive. It may take days, weeks, and months at a time but we do in fact eventually get a response.

I do have to ask though. What exactly are you suggesting that "you the Uber PVPers asked for"? I think I've misunderstood something because I'm fairly certain more spam wasn't on the wish list.

Not only did we get a response, we got a response that (on the surface) definitely seemed to address our, in this case, specific concerns as they relate to PvP. It is refreshing (and, tentatively, reassuring) to know that the time that snix has been spending in-game, at least on the FE weekends (he spent a lot of time in PvP, not just doing the mission ), has helped him to see some of our concerns, and I hope that this continues in the future.

It would be awesome to get snix and any other Devs to get in-game and play with us even more often. The OPvP regulars would probably relish the opportunity to include any Dev that wanted to join in, pre-made or PuG, and help them to see a little more from the dedicated PvP-ers perspective.

Looking forward to upcoming changes,

Targeting needs to be reworked first. Adding a working "Select NPC only" option is a good start, but pretty much all targeting options seem in need of attention (like target closest enemy, etc)

Lets think about reasonable limits to the number of spawned items per map next. Carriers can spawn more then escorts, but X-item per player limits sound like a good start.

Finally why not include the rework of torpedoes (and mines) damage types Stahl mentioned now. To make sure there is a game mechanic these items can fulfill. Not that fry some eggs on my pc isn't a great RL mechanic.

The sequence is key here imho, what do you guys think?

  • Unaffected by dispersal patterns

Maybe all of those combined would be too much of a nerf? Some sort of combination of some would be fair?
destroying themselves would be cool after a while of activation like other mines.......personally i do not use them in PvP...just against borg in gamma PvE.

I wouldn't use them in PvP...it takes away the sport of the kill.

I could def see why it would create the big suck for sure....perhaps it should be a PvE only item? If they can turn off a party favor in ESD, they can certainly disable mines in PvP.

The tech to disabling specific items based on maps seems to exist, as we've seen in Coliseum.

That could be a way for Cryptic to handle some of these issues. I am not generally a fan of changing the mechanics between PvP and PvE, though. I think it creates an additional barrier to entry for PvP if powers work differently there. (and it's already hard enough to get into PvP and understand all the implications. We see evidence of this all the time!)

I am partial to improving the NPC AI and power selection to make the experience a little more dynamic and challenging then now, and thus a little closer to PvP. At least on higher difficulty levels. Just adding straight damage and hit point buffs doesn't cut it.

If... and ONLY if... They are equipped with the following:
  • Unlimited Duration Tractor Beams
  • Charged Particle Bursts every 5 seconds
  • Tractor Beam Repulsors that trigger whenever targeted by an enemy
  • Dispersal Patterns Alpha AND Beta 3, for their self-replicating subroutines
  • Spam Launchers - Launch 'actual' cans of SPAM (tm) at all enemies within range
  • Communication Relays - Which spam the following Zone Chat message: "lulz"
  • X-Ray Vision - Cloaking is futile...
  • Permanent Metaphasic Shielding

Without these things, they will merely be another FotM item...

All kidding aside, it is encouraging to hear what snix has been saying, I hope that we will see many positive changes from all of this...

Well if how bad we've thumped a certain Dev in pvp is any indication they aren't much better than a pug player in pvp. So it wouldn't surprise me to learn that they don't understand, nor care about what makes pvp work, or fall apart. I'm a firm believer that a Dev should immerse his or herself fully into a game. In other words, when you que up against a dev you should be Scared. Not "oh look it's X again hehe"

The Cloaking Tractor mines, are a prime example. It's fairly well known that APO and PH fail to stop tractor slow effects after the 2nd beam. (and their ability to resist diminishes greatly.) If you want decent proof of this, go run a Deferi daily and get yourself snagged by 4 plesh brek frigates with APO or PH on. Or get yourself snagged by multiple borg tractors in kerrat. You'll be incredibly slowed when the 4th hits you to the point that it's very similar to being snagged in one with the caveat that evasive and engine battery while they break them with apo on. Is incredibly slow.

But before fixing this issue. Or even addressing that it exists, despite input on it from several sources, they released the mines.

Mines, which only have a 5 second timer between multiples of, and can be Dispersal Patterned. Launching 8 mines at a time with the Pattern on, and another 4 when the second launcher goes off. Now a second ship is carrying a CTB launcher. Adding another 4 into the mix.
Now imagine doing this to an enemy team with the usual Chroniton, tric mine spam, 1-2 Photonic Fleet, full compliments of Scorpion Fighters, and then you Scramble them. Targeting a player in that mess is all but impossible.

Especially when some will sit behind the curtain of crap, literally sit. The targetting boxes overlap so much you can't even tell what are what until you target.
