Hello all,

Just got myself the game, and I must say, it's way more impressive than I tought. Not to mention very cool visuals

Some questions though.

- Is the game seperated for US EU? Or is it one big shard like EVE.
- I like to play science. Is this recommended for new players? Am I going to get in trouble at higher levels?
- I read fleets are guilds in this game. What's the point of a fleet? Are there 'dungeon' style things to do in STO?
- What's with these feature stories? Are they free?

Have some more, but I guess this is a start

The base expirience is the same... (imo that is...)

At the moment the main benefit is having people to speak and play the game with that you know and (hopefully) trust, who can answer questions you might have... Other than that, theres arent many, but i still highly suggest you join one (preferably mine xD )

Yup... 100% free... And they are the best made content in this game... Enviroments are stunning, 5 episode storyarks witch are well written, and has cool special rewards... A must-play part of the game... Once you hit level 6 you will be able to play them

Have some more, but I guess this is a start

Not separated as far as I know; although within game there are instances to control overcrowding of areas.

Science takes a little more understanding of the mechanics and powers to do but I don't see why you should avoid it as a new player, especially if you have previous MMO experience. In higher levels if you like to do damage directly a Science officer on a science ship tends to do less damage than other combinations.

Fleets will (hopefully) help you out in STFs which are grouped activities (think small 5-man raids). You can also group up for PvP matches, and of course share resources (fleet bank, crafting). It's really just like any other MMO guild mechanic.

To add content, Cryptic has created ~5-mission ("quest") story lines that are tightly integrated together and called them feature stories. They tend to have better fluff, scripting, and progressions. They also have some unique rewards. They are free.

1: No. This places speakers of languages other than English at a great disadvantage.
2: No. Probably. Science vessels are the hardest ship to play well, and they work best in conjuction with other types of ships. Rolling a science vessel is more difficult than the others.
3: To assist with running the STFs at level cap. Some fleets offer assistance while leveling, but if you need help leveling in STO, you're in serious trouble.
4: Featured episodes ('weeklies') represent Cryptic's finest work. They are included in your monthly subscription fees and may be played at almost all levels. Proceed immediately to Starbase 39-Sierra and pick up the mission 'The Vault' from Admiral T'nae. There is a limited time reward which may be claimed if you manage to complete the entire Romulan featured series before March 24.

I play a Science Officer in a Science vessel, and I can tell you that it suits my playstyle.

Science Officers have a variety of abilities that buff, debuff, or control. Like control types in other games, they don't generally do as much damage as an "assault" class. Though many Science Officers can and do fly in Tactical ships like Escorts and they can do lots of damage.

One of the points of the Science class is to "help or hinder". In a PvP or Fleet Action scenario, they probably need to team up with other classes for survival. In PvE, the only difference is it might take you a little longer to win a battle. Or less, if you play them right.

Want to confuse your enemies into attacking each other? Science ability. Want to jam your target's sensors? Science ability. Want to hold them in place? Science ability. Fun stuff! Science abilities are also good for healing on the ground.

The ship you fly heavily influences the abilities available to you in Space. In General, Tactical ships allow you to get more Tactical abiities, based on the kinds of Bridge Officers you can assign. Cruisers allow you to get more Engineering abilities. Science vessels allow you to get more Science abilities.

My first character was a Science Officer, and is now a Vice Admiral. I have played through most of the PvE content. I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Awesome

Thanks for the replies. I think science will fit me well then.
These feature stories are missions you come across naturally in the game? Or do you have to search for them? Like the 'The Vault' mission.

Also, is it worth spending on a new ship early in the game? or do you get a replacement by missions fast?
Same for bridge officers, do you get them throughout the levelling? Or is it recommended to buy them early in the game.

And I forgot, can you do the previous feature stories as well? Or is it a limited time only?

all teh the FE's can be done at any time, however the "limited time reward" is just that, only here for a short time, the Romulan series will be here til the 24, if i recall correctly.
