# 1 Mid-match logoffs
06-01-2011, 01:39 AM
Tonight 2 fleet mates of mine joined up for some Arenas. We had a couple of fun matches, and the last one ended up being against a pretty good pug...2 members of 7th Core and a few other experienced players, and sadly, we were all in cruisers. The match lasted 2 hours, with the score 13-7 in our favor, and before we could get the last 2 kills, one person logged out, and then 7th Core turn tail and ran. They then proceeded to leave the match.

It was such a long game that one of their team mates had already left and another had just been killed, so it was a matter of 30 seconds before we killed them and won. Had it been me, I would have stayed and taken my licks, said "good game," and continued on having fun. I guess I'm more honorable than some.

My point being, I know it's been asked for many times, but they have to put some kind of system into place so that people can't escape dying by logging off or leaving the match. It cheats people out of their win, out of their emblems, and out of time they could have spent doing something (anything) better.

2 of the pug people left. Then my friend and my brother had to log off. One for work, my brother for his wife. That left just me and I was not just going to sit there in a 5 on 1.

Sorry, but sometimes life take precedent over games. We were not expecting an hour long battle. They have lives too.

Perhaps a time limit would be a better request. God knows we were talking about it, during the match.

Now, if you will excuse me, I wanted to be asleep 30 minutes ago. I have things to do as well.

The other day I was in a CnH 4v4 and within a minute one of my team had already flown out of sight to AFK. The other sat for ages, doing nothing before joining in after 5 mins, and then leaving shortly after. Then the last of my allies left, leaving me vs 4 other plays.

Now, I was happy to just get on with it, we had been playing long enough, I might as well get my 3 emblems out of it, but low and behold, my internet cut out right after I tried (and failed at) a sneaky de-cloack attack on one of their escorts, despite being surrounded by his allies,(cuz that's how I roll G!).... Couldn't get back online again for about 30 mins.

Now, I know full well, they probably assumed I dropped the game, but I didn't, it was just dumb luck, and I worry that we may end up accusing or punishing people for things that MAY be out of their control. I can only recommend it takes multiple "flags" in a certain timespan from other users before their actions are considered suspect.

And yes, people have real lives. I've had to at least AFK countless times to pull food out the oven.

By all means, your life should take precedence over a virtual space fight.

However, for those of us who invested the time, it ended up being a complete waste. I missed out on sleep to finish the match too because I didn't want to leave my fleet mates in an unfair match. A timer would be good, but marking a kill for someone who leaves the match wouldn't hurt either. The STO community continues whether or not you're on, and its frankly not fair to leave a well fought match that close to the end after that much time. Not because its not allowable, but because its not ethical.

Hmm... so you mean I shouldn't be playing this game as if it was all I had in life... and eat.. sleep.. and bleed PVP?

Oh well.. who knew? :p

If the battle had lasted 5mins or so fair enough but 2hrs+ I think they did well to stick it out as long as they did and can't be held to account if they need to leave. Then again if you were so close to winning then you do understandably ask yourself why not forfeit and accept defeat.
