# 1 Barrel Roll in Space?
03-14-2011, 09:14 AM
Not sure if this would go here so please move it if it doesn't. I was thinking of a new power that would be a great addition to this game. A barrel roll for a space power. I was thinking that it could be like a vet reward & never NEVER put in the C-Store. The idea would be that you set a target & hit the power. It's sends you flying at full combat impuse or at the speed of evasive maneuvers into a barrel roll firing all forward weapons at a single target for like 3 seconds. Now the recharge could be like 10 mins & do a lot of dmg. I wouldn't allow beam overload or high yield torps to be activated before using it since that might make it over powered. I'd compare the dmg to the Gal-X's phaser lance or something simular. I'm not a game designer so I don't know how hard it would be to do something like that but I do think it would be a very fun thing to have. What yall think?

I think it would make for a nice evasive effect so you can show off or increase your chances of not being hit. Would not make it a weapon buff of any kind though. Heck even if they added it to the evasive maneuvers it would be great visually.

i think this should be restricted to smaller ships, like the BOP or escorts, add in 40% defense increase?

I could imagine a few powers - maybe Captain or ship-related powers - that could do this...Some existing powers could also be augmented with this. Attack Pattern Omega, Evasive Maneuvers...

Um, why? Is it because you fly an escort and a BoP? Just kidding. Seriously though, I would love to hear your reasoning behind why only small ships should be able to do this.

I very much liked how it was handled in Star Wars Battlefront where it was basically an extension of the moves you could do in ground combat.
Something similar could by done in STO's space combat as well, immelmann turns, loops, rolls...
Hit "A" twice to roll counterclockwise.
BUT, let's limit it a bit based on the size of the ship.
So a Galaxy might be able to do a loop, but only very slowly and afterwards the ship would have a stamina bar cooling off very slowly, 60 seconds for example.
As opposed to a BoP where that bar would take 15 seconds to disappear.

while i do fly a BOP i also fly a sovy, i believe that the BOP, being more a fighter than anything else would be more prone to the acrobatic maneuvers than a large ship like a cruiser, simply put why would a cruiser do a barrel role, or a science ship for that matter.

i will admit i like mister dees idea best.

Don't need to limit it to small ships only, if I can manuever a 100ft motor boat around a tiny canal corner in key largo, then a star cruiser can do a barrel roll in space. Granted such a feat might be taxing on the systems, so yes on the power drain... maybe even make it power level dependant.

This is all just a moot point. Dstahl has already said multiple times that rolls loops are not going to happen

Yes, he said so in the context of regular ship manuevers, but not in the context of specific spaceborne equivalents of for example the rolling we we have on the ground right now.
