The 3 min cd for Ablative is pointless if u get killed cause of the lower duration. As i said the way i used it i prefered the longer duration with the longer cooldown, but as nearly always that dpeneds on the personal preferences.

I was referring to its usage, you see a lot more Intrepid-Rs because a lot of players think of the AA as a diaper like so many players that used and abused RSP. You still see players popping RSP after one shot hits their shields and the same goes for Ablative. Not to mention the penalty for ablative is less noticable on a Sci ship since most are not about direct damage. How many intrepids run ablative with FBP, or ablative with snare builds. Sacrifice energy damage is not really a sacrifice in most intrepid builds. I mean if you threw Ablative on lets say a defiant that there would be a trade off, you get to stay alive but all you have is projectile damage.

Referring to that the old Ablative with the longer cooldown was better to prevent your described way of usage, cause with a 5 min cd u have to think twice if it is really worth using it now or not. I personally prefer the intrepiid cause of the following reasons. The add ensign sci is for me more useful then the ensign tac of the RSV and it is using the same T5 captain skill like the Nebula which i like to fly also. So i can use 2 quite different ships and getting the boni from the T5 skill for both. The Ablative was or is a nice add, but shouldnīt be the main reason to fly it.

And btw. if u see a intrepid running FBP and Ablative togheter u have even 2 reasons to change the target.

Conclusion: Cloak advantage has become nullified since any smart player running in this type of a group knows who is going to be hit and is ready to react.
Cloak advantage has been nullified how? Klings can still choose whom they wish to Alpha for the most part right?

I'd consider a 15 second Ablative with 5 minute cooldown perfectly reasonable. The extra ensign sci slot on the Intrepid kicks butt regardless of Ablative anyway.
Agreed, I barely ever use it either, 10-15 seconds is better than it was, the original cooldown would be fine by me also.

I wonder if the Varanus received ablative armour (the same ability with a different name I guess), and matching turn rate equal to the Intrepid-R, would there be a problem with the fleet escort receiving a battle cloak and universal bridge officer slots?

I'm all for diversity in ship types between factions, but the balance war rages on, so maybe it's coming to the point where every ship should have a mirror on the opposite faction??
