# 1 Say no to broken skills
03-24-2011, 02:36 AM
In the game atm, there are some skills/items that are considered broken by most people. I would with this post encourage people not to use those skills/items.

The current OmegaXIII policy is that when running as a team, we try to avoid using the following:
- Scramble Sensors (because of the problems with clearing it)
- Scorpion Fighters (because these serves no other purpose than cluttering your screen)
- Tractor Beam Mines (because they are declared unbalanced, and ruins pvp)

Note: We're not enforcing this policy within the fleet. You may still find O13 members that use them, especially if we're bringing along members that are new to PvP. What we do is encourage all our members not to take advantage of broken skills in PvP.

We realize that we put ourselves at a disadvantage by not using these skills/items, but we feel it is more important to offer our opponents a fair and fun fight, than winning at any cost. I encourage all other premades to do the same.

(As for down right exploits, we do not permit it! Pasted from O13 general orders: "Any violation of Cryptic's Terms of Usage or End User License Agreement will result in immediate discharge from the fleet.")

Respect to Omega XIII then

I'm guilty of using scramble on my sci but only because it's easily cleared by teammates, which hopefully encourages teamwork. It can occasionally be well placed to affect as many targets as possible - but that at least takes situational awareness. Otherwise I try to avoid cheap skills/items for the sake of my own enjoyment, pride, and integrity. I encourage everyone else to do the same. The game is what you make of it, after all. I do agree that scramble is somewhat broken at the moment regarding the frequency of forced target switching though.

I adjusted my BoP build to pure fighting with no special tricks a couple months ago, and it's yielded significantly more satisfaction in my gameplay. If any of you want to dogfight without broken skills I'll be happy to oblige Can't promise I won't stack resists though :p

The mindless flavor of the month spamming is despicable and repulsive. Anyone else notice that most people who were using lower ranks of Fire at Will stopped using it after the specific nerf to the combination of FAW3 and dual beam banks? Everyone and their mother was using it even with beam arrays when it was only broken for DBBs, but then many people ditched it when the specific unintended damage bonus for DBBs was fixed? Those who didn't use FAW3 with DBBs still stopped using it because it wasn't the flavor of the month anymore. Sheep! Baaaaaaa

Nice to read that there r some players who think the same of some skills/items.
Im not using ctm's except i notice that my opponent uses em.
Scorpionfighters r pretty nonsense and don't hit my view of the Federations fighting style.

Scramble sensors is something i use on my sci. Its common to the class and the only good sci ability that gives the Nebula class some worth.

@BobTheYak: Im still using Faw. Its pretty good to do some AoE dmg to clear fighters and mines and gives our escorts the chance to do their job if we counter a massive spam of ctm's and chroniton mines.

dang I should of joined O13, as i don't use any of those gimmicks either. Or RSP . Of course, the CTM's + SS have made my Tac in a Kar-Fi a Deathtrap, so much so that i don't even play him anymore. I can't respec into another ship without paying cryptic more money, which i refuse to do.
Anyway, Kudos to you & you're fleet.

If no PvPers use the wtfomgpwn stuff then the PvErs won't cry about it and will claim everything is fine. All you're doing is giving Cryptic excuses to create an unbalanced game. Use what works best, and use it well, and it will eventually get a balance pass. Just don't get upset when Cryptic nerfs you -- instead find the next unbalanced thing until this game becomes more about player skill than setting up your build for easy mode.

A few things,

First, I am completely behind Omega XIII and their proposal and I PVP the same way.

Second, I played a PVP match last night that was absolutely the worst experience ever. The Fed ball was spamming CTM's constantly, of course the powers supposedly able to counter them were not working, and even though we were a PUG (which I usually play) we had one guy screaming at everyone not to rush in (which we weren't) but were forced into action because of the CTS's locking on to cloaked ships and screwing up the tactics. Without turning this into a rant I will simply say the mines SUCK!!

Third, a fleet with some integrity, who do I have to PM to get on board?

I wasn't planning this as a recruitment poster, and you should know we're not very good at PvP, but we still PvP a lot just for fun! Feel free to contact me by mail or in-game if you want in, or check out our awsome homepage www.omegaxiii.com

Thanks! I just like the idea of having a fleet that values tactics and skill over gimmick gear. I am decent at PVP, and I strictly play for my own enjoyment, so it sounds good to me. Is it a Fed fleet or KDF?
