No fire pits around here in Canada's largest city. I will make a point fo seeing if I can get some smoked from the deli or butcher to give it a try. I have been tempted to candy it thanks to EpicMealTime but I don't know if I would like that. The same goes for maple bacon. If I make it, it's fine but I don't like the dark maple syrup due to it being way on the sweet side.
Z's fruitcake isn't like anything I have ever heard about. It's nothing like what mostexpect and I can't wait to try it. It's got marshmellow in it for starters. Off hand, I don't remember all of the stuff that makes it different but it really sounds delicious.
Vanilla waffers, marshmellow cream, condenced cream (or orange juice pending your preferances), rasins, walnuts, and the fruit
I get my maple syrup from a maple tree farm about an hour north of Toronto. I can't stand corn syrup, those half/half blends, and other fake crap! It has to be 100% pure maple syrup and the medium kind. Dark is too sweet for my tastes and the light lacks thickness to be a good syrup. I really need to grab some to send Z in my next care package.

the MAple must be from a place you can see the leaf. like the Bee Keepers down the lane.
you see them on your clover.. so you know its fresh. .the eggs.. new chickens are growing the old ones stopped laying and the ducks were hiding in the brush piles but the last bail of hay was likew straw.. and the goats dont like it
