# 1 The Average PvP Game
03-29-2011, 08:30 PM
I've noticed lately a lack of excitement with PvE on Elite so I started strictly pvping for awhile. Today, after waiting an hour (stated pvp queues were 20-30 minutes), I finally get in Fed vs Fed only to see the following:

3 cruiser ships that include:
2 engineers with no healing at all
1 tac in a cruiser who doesn't know how to join a team.

This is the average pvp pick-up group I've run into in the past month. We all know PvP has a steep learning curve but you should really know better by the time you reach admiral. All this has left a bad taste for this game.

I really don't have an hour to wait on 3 newbie players to join a pvp game and waste my time. Either decrease the queues, make pvp easier for those "newbies", or eliminate it altogether. The situation that pvp is in right now is too laughable. I shall be back if it ever gets that fun factor.

THe PvP community is so small that PvP at the lower tiers are feast or famine, lately more famine because of this the ignorance of PvP mechanics will make it to RA and higher. Its sad but true. Many people hit max realize they have reached the end of STO and attempt PvP usually with total and utter disaster. Feds have it worse do to the PvE content so they are usually light years behind a klingon equal just in basics alone.

If people actually played a lot of lower tier PvP, then maybe they should have learned by Rear Admiral. But if now most people start PvP at Vice Admiral... They haven't learned anything yet.

I suspect a lot of people also like to "rush" to endgame, and the low skill points from PvP and the long fights in Elite PvE don't really contribute to them challenging themselves. Only when they are VAs they notice there isn't much to do yet...

Feast or Famine is very true and most sad among the lower ranks.
One of the better pleasures of STO is fighting ones way up through the ranks of PvP.
It is something I miss very much.

Healing kind of depends on the cruiser type. At lower tiers it's all the same, but at end game you've got to spec for one cruiser, and if you specced for something other than a Star Cruiser you pretty much need to respec to heal. That shouldn't stop them from throwing around rank 1 and 2 teams, HEs, and TSSs, but you really can't expect an Excelsior to be a healer. Assault Cruisers are a bit better for healing, but that still kind of misses the point of playing an assault cruiser.

I'm happy to heal sometimes, but I got frustrated enough with pet spam that I specced to run an Excelsior as an anti-aircraft boat, and I really can't heal effectively with it. I wouldn't mind going back to my Star Cruiser and healing (and frankly with the way FAW is now I could clear spam just fine using FAW 2 on a healing cruiser), but that would cost me real life money to respec.

I could run my Galaxy-R and heal, but I'm still not really specced for healing, and the Galaxy-R kind of sucks. (Did it get nerfed? I'm noticing that it takes a penalty to engine, shield and aux power in escort mode now, and I don't recall that being the case before.) Because of the penalty to aux, the Galaxy-R can only effectively heal with the saucer attached, but in that mode it's even less manuverable than other cruisers, has fewer consoles

Thankfully, most of my PvP matches are far more interesting than the OP posted.
