Yeah I get what he's saying but trading the ability to slot tac team 1 for tac team 3 instead isn't a balanced change. Lets not kid ourselves level 3 abilities are more powerful than level 1. I suggest he tries out an excelsior-r if he wants the extra high level tac powers.

I agree, but if we are casting wishes into the wind, I would like the same for the Vorcha refit which has the same current BOff layout as the Gal-X/Assault Cruiser. :p

Maybe they should really just do t his for all ships and then the BO complaining will finally stop? Or do we need to add a Universal BO as well? With a side order of battle cloak and carrier pets?

I would absolutely LOVE to have that BO layout for my Galaxy -X and Assault Cruisers, because the aren't very much assault-ish or dreadnought-ish at the moment in my opinion.

So, only half-jokingly, when do super-high-end admirals get a super-rare ship that will give you access to all level abilities of all Bridge Officers? Can we not get some kind of fleet-level flagship (maybe a 1-yr-in-the-same-fleet unlock bonus?) crewed by all Commanders who all know what they're doing in terms of all their abilities and can use them all?

Yeah, I know, it would be a heinous tank and everyone would complain that it's "too powerful." But still, it sounds like fun on paper for super-endgame type missions.

Perhaps it would be something where you get a sliding-scale access to command-level abilities depending on the sliding scale of the mission difficulty selected? I think that would be kind of cool actually. The harder the mission, the more you have to put ALL your abilities to the test and pull out ALL the stops. Maybe certain recharge times would even be reduced at the maximum difficulty setting, just to give you a fighting chance? (I haven't really played anything on other than normal difficulty level yet).

I was just thinking something along the lines of Easy, Normal, Hard. Easy would give you access to across-the-board ensign-level abilities (perhaps making you rethink your strategy and officer assignments slightly), Normal would give you the usual spread of abilities for their ship class, Hard would give all bridge officers a minimum of Lt. Cmdr-level abilities (and whoever already had Cmdr-level abilities unlocked at Normal would keep them), and Impossible you'd get all abilities unlocked up to Cmdr.

Just an offbeat thought I had... No doubt would need a lot of tweaking / balancing. But, that's what we pay Cryptic et al the "big bucks" for, right?

How so?

This is an MMO. Theoretically, such a "super endgame type" mission should be a mission requiring multiple players. But if everyone can do everything, there is no need for specialization and coordination. Everyone picks and uses the best powers. You reduce the chances of interesting interplay and meaningful decisions.

Games are a lot based on your ability to win or fail based on limited resources, what you select and what you are willing to give up for it, and how you act within these constraints to succeed.

Just like there is no "Super Endgame Type" WoW character that can use all Paladin and Rogue powers or something like that, there is no "SUper Endgame Type" ship in STO. Nor need their be one.

.
It would too unbalance the game unless you did similiar alterrations to the other vessels in STO.
In order to keep the AssCruiser or Gal-X from being too powerful Escorts would need a once-over to see where they would need a LTC/COM engineering, Science BOff slot rank increase as well.
At that point the game gets just gets several more steps closer to being "vanilla" factions with fan pandered "uber-ships" holding the most sway.
This is not a good thing.

In my opinion all non cruiser ships, especially escorts, need a bit more Hull and shield Hitpoints, and a BIT less attack power, i think as soon as a game needs a class that can kill others in a matter of seconds, something goes really wrong IMHO.
