I'm working with a re-creation of the Globe Theater, Klingon-style:

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/1...1041412563.jpg

The plan is to have a whole neighborhood inspired by Elizabethan England. Y'know, Puritans preaching on street corners, a strange disease spreading, lots of drinking, really playing out the caste system in Klingon Society where we might see Gorn on the bottom rungs and maybe the Orions treated kinda like the French or Spaniards, while the Nausicaans are more like Hessians. Definitely play up the houses and the nobles.

The idea being this sortof ultimate realization of the side of the Empire that would produce a General Chang. With lots of bozzing and adventuring if you're not quite as much in that noble caste.

The novel thing is, once my city is complete, the idea will be a string of 5 fairly open ended objectives, with most of the action happening outside the story tab.

So you might be told to secure entertainment, pick a fight, find the finest ale for your crew, but there's not one place you have to do it or one specific way you have to do it. And the big idea is not to close off development on the mission but to keep adding optional objectives. So that you could just chain-play this one mission for a simulation of life on this one part of Qo'noS and it might feel different every time and have constant expansion of options.

I'll join this contest. I've been thinking the military compound in my second mission was a little bare.

Edit: I changed my mind. Expanding my current missions to involve a big city doesn't make sense within the story without me having to complete redo the existing mission.

Question: How are you determining the correct size?

Here's an article I wrote for Starbase UGC w/ ample screenshots from the creation process of building my Cardassian City:

Good luck and I look forward to more cityscapes!

I know it's a contest and I'm showing my work, but here is a very early work in progress shot.

I have a city that is part of a long away published mission. As in not anytime soon. It is full of half written maps, dialogs, characters, etc. Once I saw some of the features foundry gives, I was all over creating a city. But its been mothballed in this mission. It is intended as a holoprogram that facilitates an escape. Much as Picard did in First Contact.

Anyway, I don't really want it in the contest because I don't want anyone playing it as of yet, but I'm posting screenshots just for fun, I guess.

Very near the spawn point

This roof is inaccessable via the mission, but it gives you the entire picutre

Contemplation at the end of an ally

Residential zone

South End of the Square

Industrial / military zone

The Back Ally

The Scope

As you can probably see this is a bespin-esk city. But proof of this is in the undercity.

Undercity One

Undercity Two

One of the city's Generators

I fell

Ha, just thought of something: If you fall you'd have to rely on your transporter chief to get out out of there before you get plastered on the rocks below. Just like in the new JJ Abrams Star Trek. I tried it, there is enought time.

I'm working on an Andorian City on the actual Andoria Map. It's part of a gauntlet toss toward the developers.

The cool parts are:
  • it's a huge challenge with such uneven terrain
  • it's going to be epic - catwalk over ravines and buildings on tops of hillsides.
  • it's going to have lots of NPCs going about their business (I recently discovered they enabled individual NPC behaviors).
  • it'll be less pinksinned.

I've had the share of uneven terrain. I accidentally pasted my 1200 foot base above a hill. As I tossed tables, flowers, people, glass walls, replicators, foundations. I played the map and hit my head on the desk. The base was flat. Everything else was all over the place.

I look forward to the catwalks, especially the railings as falling really sucks, and I lost more bridge officers than I'd like to count. Your cardassian city is unbelievable and I wanted to ask you where you got the crosswalk from. That was a fantastic introduction to your creation.

This contest itself is something I look foward to seeing. Compliments to the Nagus.

The catwalk is actually part of one of the medium or large Cardassian Buildings (it's why I can't have you enter and exit it - not without map duplication first).

I saw the inside was textured and thought "hey, I bet the devs wouldn't let us spawn inside it!" It turned to be a viable location. Very cool find.

The sad part is that I originally intended for players to walk around the city but, once I found that spot, I had to use it. There are consoles and walkways that the player can't possibly see. I might have to copy it over to a new mission.

Is there a way to do that?
