# 1 Infected as Duo - BEATEN!!!
04-13-2011, 03:49 AM
Hey guys,

we did it!
We managed to solve Infected (Vice Admiral) as a duo from beginning to the end!

We started at 8:15 pm and carried on to 10:23 pm and took about half / half for space and ground part.

Team

Character: Verjigorm@Verjigorm - Tactical
Ship: Advanced Escort with Multi-Vector Attack Mode Console
Fitting:
  • Phaser Weapons
  • 3 Dual Heavy Cannons / Turrets
  • 1 Front Photon Torpedo Launcher
Ground Weapons: Dual Federation Type 3 Phaser Rifle
Ground Armor: Energy Dampening Mk X [AP] [HP] [HPP]
Personal Shield: Mk X [Ap] [Cap] [PBKB]

Mato@bambino-boy - Engineering
Ship: Star Cruiser
Fitting:
  • 6 Phaser Beam Arrays
  • Tractor Beam Mine Launcher
  • Chroniton Mine Launcher
  • Full Healing Support (amongst other things: Dual Hazard Emitters & Dual Engineering Team)
Ground Weapons: AP Full Auto Assault MK X [CrtD] [CrtH x2], Disruptor Stun Pistol MK XI [CrtH x3]
Ground Armor: Energy Dampening MK X [AP] [HP] [HPP]
Personal Shield: Mk X [Cap]x3

Summary
Space Part:

We didn't destroy the transformers, so we got a hell of enemies to beat. But though we died quite often and the tactical cube alone took about 7 to 8 minutes to take down, we got 'em in the end.
Space part of Infected is much more intense gameplay in a duo than in a full team. You usually take more time for the ground part, but in this run it was balanced.

Ground Part:
The initial wave was taken down with massive MT-damage (Full Auto Assault & Auto-Targeting Assault used by myself, Full Auto Assault & Stun Pistol used by bambi) and then we switched to the weapons mentioned above.
Most groups wasn't that big problem, though we died often, too. We had much problems with groups splitted over an wide area with their nodes on special places. If we died, one remained incapacitated and waited to be resuscitated so the node wouldn't respawn upon group reset.
For the boss fight we both switched to dual Disruptor Sniper Rifles.

The final room took us one try to figure out the timing for activating and the positions where to roll from and to to get this done. The second try lead to the last of the corners and just when activated and uploaded the first one's timer went out. We already wondered about why the shield wasn't dropping. So we jumped over again and finally got the shield down. On our way to the alcoves Bambi prefered taking a hot bath in plasma so I stood alone against the queen. Due to the Chromodynamic Armor worn by me to max my damage, I hadn't enough resistances to stand against her damage. She shot me down and we had to start over.

The following round was a full success, we managed all corners to be done within max 2 tries. Destroying the generator and waiting for the queen to show up. She went down in one and a half minute (Bambi wasn't able to maintain fire when she approached our positions). This time I wore my Mk X Energy Dampening Armor.

The files in the archive are from both me and my companion: The files beginning with "screenshot" are shot by Bambi and show space part and ground part. The "Gameclient..." files are shot by me and were taken via Fraps every 10 seconds. They should be the perfect prove, that it is possible to beat Infected as a duo.

I don;t know the fact they were able to do it with just 2 people sounds pretty impressive to me. And before you knock anything how about you try it yourself. Thats what i thought

Most would have said, that it is impossible to do Infected as a duo, due to the console trios you've got to activate in order of being able to progress.

And even those who wouldn't have stated this, they would have needed to figure out timing and position to activate all three console with two players. Even if I'd release positions and a description on how to get this done, mostly all players wouldn't be able to duplicate this.

Regarding the other raids:

Cure couldn't be done even with 3 players. While the first two shield barriers wouldn't be that problem, you will barely be able to get the third shield barrier down. Chance for success would be a bit higher on the last one, but who cares, if you can't reach it?
4 players is definitively possible.

Same for Khitomer Accord: Way too much enemies are passing the transwarp conduits in the first part to get handled by one player. As an escort you got enough damage to take em down - theoretically - but not enough heal to get this done without being destroyed. All other classes may be able to hold out, but wouldn't do enough damage to get rid of the enemies within the 3 minutes you got from one shield drop to another.

Terradome... mh... while you could get through space easily you will get a real problem when you need to defend the engineers hacking the consoles. Though the attacking Undine don't respawn unless you kill them, you wouldn't be able to hold out 4 and 6 Undine attacking you without end. Rest of Terradome wouldn't be a problem then, but it's the same problem as mentioned above: You can't get there...

Impressive!

Did you do it on normal difficulty? Not that it takes anything away, just curious.

uuuh?

ok cool story so far and totally believable and all... but...

dont you have to press all 3 consoles in the corners of the final room at the same time?
how did you do that with only 2 people?

Oh, ofcourse it is a good accomplishment.. Didnt mean to imply it wasnt.

But.. The most challenging part of a 2man Infected, is not the Borg as such, but the fact that you need to find a way to activate 3 consoles with 2 people. If it was not for that element, Im sure someone would be able to solo it.

As for trying it myself, Ive done a 5man run that turned into 3man relatively short into the groundpart recently (after second section/room), where none of the us had a single point specced in a groundskill. However, I dont do STFs anymore for fun (because they stopped being fun after they were nerfed) but rather because I enjoy helping people.

For content supposedly designed for 5 man groups, its kinda tame its possible at all. Thats all Im saying.

Not at "the same time", you have a bit of leeway.. Ive never attempted it, but Id suppose it works something like this:

First guy hit a console, second wait a moment (1sec - 2sec - 3sec never timed the activation time) and hit the second, in the meantime the first move to the last console and activate that.

This assumes the activation window is "reset" when each entry is entered. Im not certain of this.

My second attempt would be each player tags a console on the "end" as soon as its activated turn toward the middle console - Obviously the players would be placed as close to the middle console, when activating the edge consoles.

I might be totally off.. But that would be my first two attempts.
