Folks shouldnt have to give up their favorate ship design for the sake of upgrading. At least make it somthing to look forward to when making Vice Admiral. For me it would be the Soverign class. I'm sure other folks had a faverate design that they had to givbe up upon being promoted. Riker once said one of the perks of being an Admiral was being able to choose your ship.

The Sovereign is fully capable at VA, just because the refit ships become available doesn't mean you have to give up the Sovereign. Every ship available at an admiral rank is statistically equal, or something like that. Thought your point is well seen on the ships in Teir 3 and below.

I agree with this. I'd love to be able to fly a Nova at VA

I think the issue is more to the fact that the lesser ships end up with lesser slots. In the end if you wanna have a nova as your VA ship you have to sacrifice fore and aft weapons as well as console slots. Perhapse if they had weapons slots and console slots open as you rank up instead of the ship type, it could allow people to stick with a specific ship instead of changing.

VA Refit Option, upgrade anyship to current level for that ship class, Science, Escort, Cruiser. Full slots and BOs, and a few different options for your ships special. Like Saucer Seperation or Ablative armor on a Star Cruiser, Cloak or extra Weapon Power on an Escort. It would make a bunch more ships at the VA level. A lot more customizability.

I agree. I think they're heading the right way with making certain consoles transferable (MVAM, Oberth Science Console). I would love slots to open as we level, though

Im not feeling that. Think about it, your in the military, promoted for excellent service in the face of adversity, because they NEED officers. They aren't going to revamp your Heavy Escort when you reach Captain over Commander. You just don't get to. But, Admirals get their choice and a much larger budget when it comes to what they get. Course I also feel they should limit severely your costume choices for your Leutenant characters and expand what you can wear as you advance in levels till you can wear whatever you want at VA level. So...

It also limits how much work they have to do. Instead of a separate iteration of each tier of each class of ship, leveling up that Connie for tier 2 and 3 and 4 and 5, and eventually 6 and 7 and so on craziness, just two iterations for each ship, one at norm, one at VA level.

But meh, prolly a pipe dream this.

I absolutely agree with you.
I was extremly disappointed when i found out that you cannot keep the previous ship parts of the ships you already own.
We should be able to use all ship part from previous ships and be able to use them on newer ships, to do that, we should have the option to determine how big certain parts should be, to make a ship looking good (like nacelles or pylons). I think that we should get somekind of sliders for the ship parts we have at the ship tailor.

When Buying a new ship we would have the option between Cruiser, Sci or Escort Ship.
This choice would determine how much weapon slots and which BO/Console layout where availabe.
Ultimately we would only buy BO/Console layouts, Maneuverability would be the result of the type and the tier the ship is.
The Aperarance could be created with all availabe Cruiser, Escort, or Sci Ship parts the player owns, depending what type the ship is.
So for example, one could combine Envoy class nacelles with a Sovereign Class Hull, but NOT with a Escort Class hull.

I think if the devs could implement a similar bandwith of options for the ship tailor we could build some real awesome ships and no one would be forced to fly a T5 Excelsior anymore.
(I really, really hate the looks of that ship)

Personally i find it real sad to have so much options at the character tailor but having so little customization options at the ship tailor.

Live long and prosper.

While I certainly don't disagree with making all ship designs available at all levels, I think the idea of switching around "costumes" from one ship to another is not the way to go. I don't want to see a ship with the stats of a Tactical Escort looking to all appearances like a Galaxy Class starship, or a Star Cruiser which appears ingame as a Nova class.

And truthfully when you talk about "costumes" for a ship, it actually isn't possible to take a Galaxy and make it look like a Sovereign. You can't take the parts off a Sovereign and put in on a Galaxy, they can't mix and match like that since they aren't built for the same model. It's a little like trying to use Caitian parts on an Andorian, or Bolian parts on a Vulcan. Each ship "class" has its own subset of parts that will properly fit it.

Honestly, the only way we will ever get this is if there is some way to continue to use lower Tier ships when you get to higher level. This doesn't have to be the same as just having the same ship available at each Tier, the lower Tier ship can be weaker than those "naturally" at that Tier. However, the devs don't seem to be interested in anything but the method they are currently using for refitting existing ships, like the Excelsior and Galaxy, for Tier 5.
