I love these statements:

Quote:
I don't say this to take away from the original issue, which is that vulgarity and immature behavior (including afformentioned jokes) is not okay. Because that behavior isn't okay. Noone should have to feel slammed or bashed based on their identity (in whole in or part).

If you want a polite, professional, and politically correct medium to gain Star Trek Online news and information, there are several podcasts out there. Subspace Radio is not one of these mediums.
So you saying its NOT ok to slam people for their sexuality, so if you dont want to be then dont listen to SSR. In other words, if you dont like it, get lost. Great to know.

My issue isnt with SSR. They are free to do what they want. My issue is with SSR being promoted here, if they are going to continue that kind of behavior. I would like to encourage anyone offended by this to contact both Cryptic and Atari and tell them that Cryptic is promoting a website that makes these kinds of comments.

I wonder if Tim Russ is aware his intro is being used for a program that makes fun of homosexuality? I think he has a website where you can contact him. I'm sure he would love to know.

Guys, if you have a complaint about Subspace Radio, aCe, Jahner or myself are willing to hear them all

You can email any of us any time at ace@subspace-radio.net, jahner@subspace-radio.net or paul@subspace-radio.net

We take complaints very seriously and are reading your guy's comments about this episode and recent episodes of FtF.

While we understand everyones point of view, please realize that we do not mean to offend in any way, shape or form anyone be it different gender, race or sexuality. Hell, I'm bi-sexual duh and quite involved with the LGBT community. As well as having other staff members from all walks of life, including other bi-sexuals, transgenders and so on.

Again, we apologize if anyone took offense to any episode or show we do, and if you really feel concerned you are more than welcome to contact any of us listed above

We appreciate everyones voice about this issue and hope that we can provide you with better shows based off your comments

Thank you.

You're purposely distorting my message to push your own feelings on the issue. My wall o' text is not something to be dumbed down into a few cynical words.

However, if you really want "in other words", it's this. If you want to go through life looking for reasons to be offended, then you're more than welcome to do so. However, if you want to join in with the rest of the SSR community, don't bring that attitude with you. And in all honesty, SSR is probably not the subculture of Star Trek Online for you if you're offended easily. But luckily, the playerbase is large and varied enough that there are other mediums to turn to.

You're perfectly entitled to your opinion. But I don't see the gay jokes as hate speech. I think it's something that could be worked on, because I can see how people would be offended. But I'm not one of those people.

Thats the thing though; I dont think the complaint should go to you. You guys have the right to say whatever you want. I think the complaint should go to Cryptic/Atari for promoting a site that encourages offensive behavior. I'm not against free speech. But Cryptic should be aware of what its promoting, and so should Atari.

Subspace radio has never been about political correctness. It also isn't about hate.

The off color, insensitive jokes they make are exactly that, jokes. It may be hard for someone to understand the difference between a joke and actual intolerance if they aren't familiar with the DJs and their banter. However, as a long time listener, I've never taken the jokes and banter as anything else. They joke, they have fun, in a relaxed atmosphere.

Its not for everyone, obviously. If you can't see a joke for a joke, then I feel bad for you. But at the very least, realize that it is a joke, not an actual attempt to insult certain people, even if you don't get it or like it.

Zero gets it, though. Its all in good fun, and she had fun.

I also wonder if George Takei is aware that his speech to Clint McCance (the controversial principal in Arkansas) is played on a regular basis on Subspace Radio.

I think your confused. No one was "looking" for anything here. People are on this website because they are interested in Star Trek Online. Cryptic advertises an interview with SSR which is supposed to be about Star Trek Online. However, when people listen they find this interview is laced with demeaning comments about people's lifestyle choices. Thats not "looking" for reasons to be offended, thats having them pushed in your face when you are on a site that is supposed to be about Star Trek Online.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion. But I disagree. And I'll leave it at that. I've said what I needed to.
