# 1 Looking for a Fleet
05-08-2011, 01:43 PM
Hey everyone.

I have read alot of these Fleet posts but its so hard to judge by these. There is some big things that I am looking for so I will say a little about myself and then say what i am looking for.

28 yr old long time gamer but new to STO. I work and attend college full time so I do have limited play time when I am not studying or working. I enjoy a very active but casual group on at night til early morning.

A couple of major things that I am looking for in a fleet.:p

1. Must be active. So far, Ive been in a fleet while the people are nice.... You can go days without anyone talking even though 10 - 15 people are on.

2. I could care less if you are a hard core group killing everything in hard modes or what ever it is that you do end-game but I like to see a casual side with people having fun doing everything.

3. Kindness and Maturity. I play this game to have fun not to be blasted by some rude player for not doing somthing just so.....or if I ask a noob question (and I will..because again...I have not met anyone really to play with.) I dont want to hear sarcastic remarks on not knowing something.

4. Structure. While some small fleets may work with everyone just doing what they want... I do enjoy a bit of structure. It has always been fun to have goals to climb not only the game ranks but guild ranks as well.

If you think your fleet meets what I have said, feel free to respond to this or to me in game Rika@Merlie.

We may have what you want!

If you are in your 30's, 40's, 50's or even 60's and you enjoy a relaxed fleet where you have a say in the direction and you can be as involved as you like please check us out.

Just a warning!! We may be a little nerdy and we have been doing some role playing and bio/fiction writing to justify why Captains in 2409 would be wearing 2269 uniforms. It all makes sense when you are willing to bend the prime directive (as well as spacetime) a wee bit.

Please see the blog for a glimpse into the developing storyline behind our fleet:

Our website is now setup so you can come aboard:

Greetings,

Wish I could play STO right now, but I'm working up North in RL, where the best broadband speeds one can get are close to dial-up, so all say I can't meet you in game and give up to date information.

When when I was playing STO last year, and not just reading posts like this year....I really enjoyed being part of the Canadian Federation, 12th Fleet, and the IRF (Imperial Romulan Fleet).

If I liked playing as a Federation character I would probably suggest the 12th Fleet though, as they are a large fleet with several players in Europe and America, which usually guarantees fellow fleet members are online, no matter what time of the day you login. The 12th fleet was very well structured when I was there last, for knowing how to advance you character in RP in the fleet, but not requiring a great deal of time in RL, as they understand everyone has a RL as well, but also giving players the ability to spend hours in RP both on their site and in STO.

Anyways, I would suggest if nothing out, you check the 12th fleet out, and if you do, say I to Nishka for me.

If your an avid Romulan Fan, then I would suggest IRF (Imperial Romulan Fleet) and we would love to have you. However, were not supper active right now, due to no Romulan Faction. But, I wnated to make the plug nonetheless, as that is the fleet I am most involved in.

hope this helps from a casual player (away from STO) right now,

Hi Merlie!

Choosing a fleet can be difficult and it's hard to know which fleet will suit you but I'll have a go at answering your points.

If I may, I'd like to suggest and recommend the UFP. It's a 9 yera old fleet which supports a number of Star Trek games including STO. The fleet is a large international fleet which caters for a variety of playing styles. It's a very friendly place to be and I have enjoyed my time here immensely. It's the kind of fleet which can be very rewarding if you are willing to put int he effort to get to know people and get involved with events.

I'll try though and address each of your requirements.

The UFP is a large fleet with members from all over the world. Activity levels vary from player to player and within the fleet from one day to the next but you can normally rely upon a good core of people on at most timezones. In addition we have specific event officers per timezone (usually more than 1 per timezone) who regularly run a variety of events.

Only this evening the UFP met up at ESD for a bit of a laugh with no purpose other than socialising. I think we had about 25 people on and we did some group warp ins and warp outs and the conga through ESD! That said of course we do regular pvp, STF's and allt he usual stuff. Some people are hardcore players and others are more casual. All I can say is that we try hard to cater for all playing styles.

The UFP has a strict code of conduct. We don't tolerate any anti social or rude behavior and it is simply just not tolerated. We have a clear process for dealing with such things but it's a rare occasion when this is the case. We fiercely protect our members in this way. That said we encourage people to ask any and all questions. While you may feel the question is silly or obvious, you know full well that someone else might also want to ask the same question and doesn't. We have Recruit Support Officers which are assigned to each new recruit to help them get to grips with the fleet and how it operates to ensure they get the most out of the fleet and hopefully improve their game play.

The UFP is a very structured fleet and it has to be due to the size of our member base. There are many ranks which initially are jumped through some quite basic courses. Form Ensign onwards it's very much based on any specific roles you have within the fleet. These are advertised like any job and is open to any member to apply for. We encourage all of our members to get involved with the running of the fleet in any way they feel comfortable.

The best thing to do is head on over to www.ufplanets.com and take a look around our website. You'd be welcome on TS as well if you want to get to know people.

If you have any further questions, then please get in touch.

I am currently not in a Fleet and would suggest that you make sure the fleet leadership is actually playing the game. There are Fleets with Admiral and retired Rear Admirals that no longer plays this game making decisions for the Fleet. They treat it like a full time job so they no longer enjoy the fleet. They see it as a possession and members as something they control.

Give fleets a try but don't be afraid to quit if they don't meet your needs.

I Know what you mean. Finding a good fleet is a hard thing to do. I soloed my way through my first toon in STO. About 7 months ago I found Federation Fleet, And It has been great.

You had said your a full time student, Thats not a problem at all. One of our high ranking officers is also a student.

As far as active, Were are one of the largest active fleets in game. And you can almost always be talking to someone. We Focus on being Fun, Fair, and Friendly. And we also like our members to be sociable. Although your not forced into anything. We Have fun in game, On our Forums, In TeamSpeak, and we are also using face book for those that want to extend how social they want to be.
I myself can only be in game 2 nights a week, but use these tools to keep up with my friends in the fleet.

All in all, we are laid back, but do have structure, for those that want it. Although no one is forced into anything.

As far as noob questions.... We are here to help. We have people that join the fleet and have only been in game for a few days. We love to lend a hand.

PM me for any questions you may have.
