# 1 PVP Boycott (SIGN HERE!)
05-09-2011, 02:03 AM
I, as a paying subscriber for Star Trek Online expect all aspects of the game to maintain a consistent and fair gameplay. As a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) the PVP and multiplayer head to head features of the game remain a major portion of the game (and of all MMORPGs). As such I hereby protest against the enormous game balance problems, lack of attention and resources by Cryptic, and unfair gameplay resulting from abuse of certain skills for PVP. I hereby boycott PVP gameplay until these game balance issues have been fixed and addressed by Cryptic.

While I hate the current situation, particulary the FAW issue (and am quite vocal about it, as some FAW**re fleets have figured out) I cannot sign this.

I will continue to play PvP matches, if only for the sake of my fleetmates.

Boycotts will get you nowhere, and knowing the cry babies in this forum someones likely already reported your post because petitions are not allowed and it wont be long before one of our beloved cryptic mods comes along and locks this thread.

Everyone that wanted to stop playing has done so already, so your thread will unlikely gain any support.

If your paying monthly i suggest you unsub.
All the members of my fleet that where paying monthly unsubbed in protest, as well as alot of other pvp players.

They have annoyed a lot of PVP players with the FAW mess along with the continued complete and utter lack of PVP development.

Oh and btw PVP is not majorly unbalanced, sure there are a few ships that suck completely and need fixing and some ships that a far better than others. There is a advantage and bias towards federation at the elite level but hey its not massively game breaking.

The only real problems with PVP are:

1. FAW
2. Lack of development
3. PVP Noobs giving their input to devs who are also PVP noobs and then listen to that and make poor changes ala how we got to point no 1.

You wouldn't think its possible that the people that actually made the game could know so little about how it works in a PVP environment and what changes to make regarding PVP, well welcome to STO PVP.

Really such a shame too, because premades at the top level against the top fleets in the game was hands done one of the best PVP experiences of any PVP game. Really was something special for those that experienced it in its prime.

As for not playing PVP, already ahead of you in that regard i barely if ever log in anymore.

When i say PVP i mean space, i dont consider lol ground to be PVP, even if cryptic can improve it with season4, my view is that without separate skill trees for ground and space with forced pool of point for each which cant be moved, then ground will never be as active as space.

It is just too much of a chore to grind another toon just to play ground PVP. Skill pools should be separate and forced amount in each. That way whenever someone goes into ground or space you know they must have points in skills required to compete. So they won't be completely useless, like a player with no space skills points invested going into space arena , or someone with no ground skills invested trying to play ground PVP.

Short version of all that, if you don't like it unsubscribe its that simple.

This reminds me of Age of Conan where everybody turned to be a Necro or a Healer or Caster due to the uberness and melee classes got shafted and the game finally turned into "Age of Harry Potter"instead,I agree with you by 95 percent and plus i would also agree the skill tree needs a immediate fix and also that tac class needs to be back to its crippled feet...you cant have sci flying escorts and outdps you and not be able to be killed due to mass outheals...same for Engineers ,this is preposterous,i play this game because i love Star Trek but some decent revamp and skill tree /space/ground traits fixed as well.

Vipermist said it better than I could have.

While I understand the frustration, I don't foresee a boycott of an already low priority aspect of the game earning it anymore of a higher standing in their eyes. At this point I play because I enjoy running with and up against some really great people (even though those numbers are dwindling). I believe a fix for my concerns is coming, eventually, and since I'm a lifer (>_<) that does afford me all the time in the world...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel that the best thing those of us who can no longer speak with our money can do is try to make sure that our "vocal minority" is heard.

I am not going to argue that FAW is or is not OP, most seem to think so and so what the hell, lets have majority rule. However i have also noticed, finally, an increse in fleets and puggers using ES3 in arena matches and as a result those fights taking much longer and sides easily countering the damage from FAW crisers (even those run by tac captains). This imo is a good step for the community, it helps offset the dominance of FAW somewhat and reintroduces the requirement to have a cannon escort to deliver high spike to kill a player as well as the obgilitory sci player for the snb and dispells the myth that you can just pug in islolation, i have noticed an improvement in pug teamwork lately, not that it will match premades but it is beginning to surface.

I was fighting a LORE team, we had only 4 cruiers adn a sci ship, they had a mix of 4 carriers and cruisers and despite their team being at a disadvantage of 5v4 for the majotity of the match breaking their team support using heals and extends it was hard going as we did not happen to have the tools to do it.

Whe you are out pugging and you see yourself surrounded by what looks like an extra shield layer that means someone has put an extends on you, try to recognise the graphic and remain in range it might save your ship. Recently i have had random players throwing extends on me and at first i was so shocked i almost dropped my coffee, however this is becomming a more regular occurance to watch out for it in pugs, who would have thought it eh.

so no need for a boycott at all really

Have you ever heard of BO its great and whats better is feedback pulse 1-2-3 its a great counter against BO so there are ways to work around these things you just need to work it out .

I too continue to enjoy PvP, so I cannot agree to boycott. The balance WILL continue to improve.
