So, I have a proposal.... would anyone be interested in haveing a battle where all the powers are the same for each class of ship? There would be a general escort build, a general cruiser build and a general science build. Now I say general as in only the commander and lt commander slots would be used and those powrrs would be deteremined before the battles and be the same for everyone across the board. That way it really will be a matter of teamwork and skill that determines who would be the winning team.

Sign if interested and ill get the ball rolling.


This requires that everyone is honerable in following the rules.

If enough klingons are interested id be willing to mix them in as well with the same kind of restrictions.

Ye that's interesting, actually very interesting. However, I think it will be hard to decide what is "a general build"...as every career prefers something else from their ships. It definitely shouldn't be the best, overfocused builds, but really "general" one.

On Tribble, sure. On Holodeck, I wouldn't want to respec just for this.

Tribble is a great idea... everyone copies a toon... sets it to standard and leaves it there. lol

Honestly though people get used to doing things there way, I'm not sure this would really boil it down to just skill. Also part of the skill in this game is understanding how to build a ship to suit you. I don't run a torp beam and 2 cannons... many do and its a solid build. We all have a style. Although I would think the best players will do well given a "standard" setup... it would still not be a true reflection of ones STO skill level if you will.
There are people in the game like Z that are good at loading out ship and team setups... sticking him in one style of ship he would still do every well. Being able to build the ship loadouts and team strads is kinda part of the game. (one of the funner parts of the game as well)

Does that mean an escort could only use tactical abilities and no EPtS/TSS/Science Team?

Well the general idea is to make sure the entire team is set up for team work/supporting each other. I agree that tribble would be the best place but getting enough people there.... and yes, id make sure the powers are diverse not too restricting to their class but still themed around it.

I'm not sure this would work... the "general builds", no matter how general, will suit some peoples playstyle and not others.

Some people are used to running a hit 'n run escort, while others are used to running a uber-tanky escort. If you are put into a ship not built to your playstyle, you will have a severe disadvantage. And if you make the 'general build' a compromise, you'll get an escort that sucks at everything...

Same for Cruisers. DPS vs. tank.

And for sci-ships.... some people like to max out weapons power and use the sci skills to support their energy weapons. Others (like me) prefer to max out auxillary and rely on sci and torps... A build that can work for both is unlikely.

I find it interesting.

If one general build is not sufficient, one could get two for each.

But I am not quite sure I get how you want to define the builds? Proscribe only the Lt.Cmdr and Cmdr slots? Or only use those slots? (using only those would be hard. I already have trouble keeping the finger of Fleet Support in shuttle_wars.)
