# 1 C-Points too Expensive
12-13-2010, 05:56 PM
I would put this in sugestions but I don't see a place for them in the forums like Champions Online has.

There is just too much coming out that is only put on the c-store. If I use my points on this game I won't have enough for all the stuff I want in Champions Online. I play both games and am a Lifetime member to both as well. I am starting to think I have spent too much money on these two games already when every little costume costs money to get in this game. Can we please get a way to earn costumes through gameplay other then wasting money on crap costumes and ships? I find that both of these games are fun but I play Champions more because I have more friends there. I paid way too much money for this game to have such crap customization for my costumes. I understand we can't have as great of customization as Champions has for costumes because of the genre but can we please get something more than the bare minimum?

I've been asking that most of the items in the C-Store be in-game unlockables for months. If they haven't done it by now, chances are good that only the refit ships are ever going to be this way. Still, if they're listening it would be a great gesture to see this happen sometime down the road.

And the prices are actually cheap compared to some games' MT stores. Look at how much Blizzard is selling in-game pets and mounts for and then compare it to anything here. Cryptic sells cheap by comparison.

Expensive or Expansive?

Expensive it is not.

Expansive maybe. But there really isn't anything in the C-Store you have to have.

Also for CO... As a LT you will next year get a 400 CO-points stipend each month.

And what is the bare minimum anyways?

Yes it is expensive.

I wanted to buy the NX class, Ferengi, and Mirror Universe (Enterprise) uniforms.

That came out to 1120 C-Store points I believe. But the minimum amount of points that I had to purchase to buy them was 1500 which costs $18.75. It ended up costing me more than a month's subscription to purchase three items that basically serve as little more than cosmetic changes.

If I could do it all over, I wouldn't do it again. In the end, it was just a waste of money and not worth the cost. I believe that Cryptic originally stated that all C-store items would be accessible in game, but that's not true. I don't believe the three items I purchased are available outside of the C-store.

What I think would be a better solution would be to reward players with X number of Cryptic points at the end of every month. Maybe 20 or so. Such that if a player wants a ferengi, they can shell out
$6.25 to buy 500 points to spend on the 80 point Ferengi character and have it accessible immediately. Or they can keep their subscription active for four months and accumulate the 80 points that way.

Note: I am still in my first month of subscription, so if Cryptic has any such system already in effect, I am not aware of it.

Yeah, it's way too expensive for how little you actually get out of it. I bought the Dreadnaut for $25.... then they nerfed it.... plus there is no customization from the regular galaxy. The super Phaser lance isn't super any more. the costume packs aren't even packs any more.

Yeah, lack of content for how much money they'er asking in my opinion.

Yes this would be good. it would award people staying with the game. Maybe give LT subscribers 30 a month for being LTs.

Yes, the dreadnought was definitely overpriced for what it was. Mine just sits at space-dock gathering dust.
But buying C-store stuff is not mandatory, so if you don't like the price, don't buy it.
I don't think the D.Troi outfit is worth 240 so I don't get it. Simple.
Or wait for one of the many "20% off holiday sale" to save some cash.

You want expensive for more-or-less useless crap? Blizzard's selling vanity pets for $10.00 a pop and sparkle horses for around $20.00 (I can't remember the actual price since I never got it). Based on your analogy, that's almost the cost of a single month of game time for ONE item.

Easy solution there. Don't buy CP. Or wait for the next sale. As has been pointed out so many thousand times in the past how-many-months, there's absolutely nothing up there that is a "must have". With the exception of the Vor'cha alternate skin, most of the stuff that I bought were from the "free" points they handed out. And I don't plan on buying any more points unless there's something that I just got to have.

That would be something that I could get behind.

Alternatively, make everything on the C-Store unlockable in the game and most of my own complaints about it would vanish. If you want it now without the hassle of earning it and are willing to give Cryptic money, all the more power to you. However, I would love to earn my shinies without having to pay an extra slip of latinum.

WoW's Celestial Steed is $25.00. The specialty Steeds in LotRO run around $23.50.

Let me clarify. I don't - and should not - blame Cryptic for my three purchases. When I bought them, I did so willingly, and I do enjoy having them. But in hind sight, that enjoyment wasn't worth paying an amount worth more than a month's subscription.

No, I didn't have to buy them. Yes, I do enjoy them. But yes, I also think they are overpriced for what they are.

Still, I think a system in which people with an active subscription are awarded a modest sum of Cryptic Points would be nice. It would make it so that the players can gain access to anything in the C-store without paying any additional money beyond their subscription, but they would have to accumulate the points.

And then as someone else suggested, perhaps the awarded points would increase per month for longer term subscription plans, so that Lifetime subscribers get the most, and one month subscribers get the least.
