I think there could be some kind of "sudden death by logout" rule after about 30+ minutes of play.

Basically, if you play 30+ minutes in a math and one side leaves, the side that is still in the match earns a win and is considered as completing the match. (Meaning the Daily mission counter advances). 30 Minutes time means people can't abuse it that easily.

(One could also create a sudden death rule that says after 1 hour, if the team with the higher score scores a new kill, the match is over and won for them.)

Better yet... after 30 min... the next team to score a kill... wins after X time say 1-2 min. This gives the other team a chance to re tie the score... and push the match. If kills have been that hard to come by it will likely end there... however it does give the team that is down 11 10 a chance to tie it back up.

However, for those of us who invested the time, it ended up being a complete waste. I missed out on sleep to finish the match too because I didn't want to leave my fleet mates in an unfair match. A timer would be good, but marking a kill for someone who leaves the match wouldn't hurt either. The STO community continues whether or not you're on, and its frankly not fair to leave a well fought match that close to the end after that much time. Not because its not allowable, but because its not ethical.
Honestly bring some damn escorts. lol

We have had the pleasure of a few log outs... in the future stay in the map for a few min and the ques will likely give the other side some new players. It sucks to not finish the match with those you started with, but hey if you guys where really having a gentlemanly game you could have said one of us needs to warp. You want to disengage for 2 min and see if we get a new player.

Really though bring some damn escorts.

The match lasted 2 hours, with the score 13-7 in our favor, and before we could get the last 2 kills, one person logged out, and then 7th Core turn tail and ran. They then proceeded to leave the match.

It was such a long game that one of their team mates had already left and another had just been killed, so it was a matter of 30 seconds before we killed them and won. Had it been me, I would have stayed and taken my licks, said "good game," and continued on having fun. I guess I'm more honorable than some.

My point being, I know it's been asked for many times, but they have to put some kind of system into place so that people can't escape dying by logging off or leaving the match. It cheats people out of their win, out of their emblems, and out of time they could have spent doing something (anything) better.
I get where you're coming from man. I've been in pug teams that have warped out, leaving me to face premade teams alone. I've been in premade teams where pugs have warped out on us.

I know the 7th core guys, and they're not bad mannered folks. I also see where they're coming from. The match against 5 cruisers coordinating and cross supporting? yeah.... 2+ hour match. That's brutally long.

If i'm on a pug team and they warp out on me, I usually just let the other side kill me over and over again for their 15 kills. Ends it quickly for the both of us, really. I imagine myself as a samurai committing ritual self-pwnage and the other team being the one to off me head :p

i have seen you guys from the 528 do the same thing so maybe you should worrry about what your fleet does before pointing the fingure at others.

Well, I may have been hasty to post negatively about people who just needed to log off. However, if there's anything we could all take away from this, it's these things:

Please, everyone have some common courtesy. If you've been fighting a long, drawn out match and you have to go, please put a quick message in zone chat. "Hey guys, I've gotta go," goes a long way to make your opponents feel better about suddenly being alone. Simply disappearing leads people to believe you've logged off or skipped out to avoid being killed, which we've all experienced and all hate.

If you're the last person on one side of the team, be a good sport and fight the other team. You'll be regarded much more highly by the community if you just stick it out than if you escape the match just because you don't like to lose.

Lastly, my opponent from last night has it absolutely right, this would have fixed the entire situation:

It was a really ironic match...I was about to log, I just wanted to do my eng's arena daily because I had already done my sci and tac's. Had the match occurred 10 min earlier, I would have been in my fleet escort and things would have been much different. As in, I would have probably popped a couple of people off guard, but then their whole team would have FAW-***** me.

Escorts make things go much faster for both sides .
