# 1 Akira and Nova - Tier 5 refits
06-01-2011, 01:41 PM
Premise #1: The Akira class seen on-screen was a capable ship that could fight alongside the Defiant or Sovereign and survive.

Premise #2: The Nova class seen on-screen was capable of surviving far longer than initially expected, and the "Endgame" Variant was capable of withstanding an attack from two Negh'var-class ships, at least temporarily. The ship is also assumed to be capable of long-term missions (as evidenced by Kim's 4-year mission).

Premise #3: The Endgame-variant Nova class was still in use in the future timeline of Ent: "Future Tense", at least 100 years after STO's current timeframe. This suggests the class is viable and still relevant even in that timeframe.

Premise #4: As evidenced by the presence of the Dreadnought (aka Galaxy-X), "alternate timelines" are valid sources of information for the STO universe.

Conclusion: Both the Akira and Nova class ships should be viable at Tier 5, along with other ships from that time period (Defiant, Sovereign, Intrepid) and prior (Galaxy, Excelsior, Nebula, D'kyr). The proposed stats are listed below:

-----------------------

Heavy Escort Retrofit ("proper" Akira)

Rank: Vice Admiral

Hull: 30,000
Standard Shields: 4,580
Weapons: 4 fore 3 aft
Crew: 250
Bridge Officers: 1 Cmdr tac, 1 Lt tac, 1 ens tac, 1 Ltc Eng, 1 Lt sci
Device Slots: 2
Consoles: 4 tac 3 eng 2 sci
Turn Rate: 14
Impulse Modifier: 0.20
Inertia rating: 60
Bonus Power: +15 weapons power
Cost: 1 VA token
500 emblems
1200 Atari Tokens

Abilities: Rapid-fire launcher

Starships gain a slight improvement to hull strength, shield capacity, speed, and maneuverability if their captain has skills appropriate to that type of vessel. For the Multi-Vector Advanced Escort these statistics are modified by:

Starship Command
Escort Captain
Heavy Escort Captain - applies 50% of bonus
Tactical Escort Captain - applies 50% of bonus
Fleet Escort Captain

------------------

Rapid-fire launcher:
- 90' arc (forward only)
- 180 second cooldown
- Upgrades your next torpedo attack to fire 4-6 torpedos in rapid succession.

Skills that affect this ability:
- Starship Projectile Weapon Training
- Starship Torpedo Weapons
- (Appropriate torpedo type skill for current forward-facing torpedo)

-------------------------------------------

Science Vessel Retrofit (aka "Endgame" Nova Refit)

Rank: Vice Admiral
Hull: 27,000
Standard Shields: 6,468
Weapons: 3 fore 3 aft
Crew: 100
Bridge Officers: Ltc tac, Lt eng, Cmdr sci, Lt sci, Ens sci
Device Slots: 3
Consoles: 3 tac, 2 eng, 4 sci
Turn Rate: 13
Impulse Modifier: 0.15
Inertia rating: 50
Bonus Power: +15 auxiliary power
Cost: 1 VA token
500 emblems
1200 Atari Tokens

Abilities: Subsystem Targeting
Sensor Analysis
Shield Reset

*note: Costumes for this ship would include the Voy: "Endgame" variant of the Nova class. Could also unlock the "waverider" shuttle(?)

Starships gain a slight improvement to hull strength, shield capacity, speed, and maneuverability if their captain has skills appropriate to that type of vessel. For the Science Vessel Retrofit these statistics are modified by:

Starship Command
Science Vessel Captain
Research Science Vessel Captain - applies 50% of bonus
Long Range Science Vessel Captain - applies 50% of bonus
Retrofit Science Vessel Captain

------------------

Ability: Shield Reset

- Target: Self
- Disables shields for 5 seconds
- +50-100% shields*
- 10 minute cooldown

Skills that affect this ability:
- Starship Engineering Training
- Starship Shield Maintenance
- Starship Shield Efficiency
- Starship Shield Performance

*note: Ideally, a fully skilled captain would gain a full shield recharge, while someone who did not place skillpoints into shields would only achieve around 50% recovery.

I for one welcome our new chinese overlords and masters. They'll probably loosen things up around here compared to current heavy handedness.

But back on topic, OP all of your points are great, except they don't fit this game's model/tier system at all.

The two ships you want retrofit are FREE ships. And so they are destined to continue to stay in lower tiers. This game charges your money for the top tier retrofits. So you have come up with something old-ish that isn't in the game. An excelsior, a nebula, an ambassador ... a dare I say it ... Wambundu.

Those are retrofit candidates. Because those go right to the C-Store.

I like what you're saying, but think it won't go anywhere with the developers because they can't change their restrictions on the tier system. It's pay to play.

Right. Like the Defaint, Galaxy and Intrepit are free ships on lower tiers. Like the Nebula and Excelsior are at last available without C-Store on lower Tiers?
The Tier system isnt the problem at all here.

Also: Within all the discussion of "No t5 connie because its too old": Nova and Akira ARE NOT too old. No reason here. Both are liked by the fans, most likley newer then the Galaxy, for sure newer then the Exceslior.
And I even read somewhere that at some point the ENT E was supposed to be a Nova.

So yes; I think they should be available at t5 although I think some Klingon content should have priority (K'tinga T5/ K'Vort for example)

Aren't those available free with a Vice Admiral ship token? Plus, lets be honest, those ships are icons. Those ships represent three Trek series in a way that no other ship in this game can.

Anyway, I dig the OP's idea, I wouldn't fly any of them myself but it lines up nicely with the current policy of hybridizing Federation ships. You seem to have missed putting an ensign in the Nova, was that intentional?

edited after rereading

And full stop, you didn't forget to put an ensign in the Nova, you gave it TWO lieutenant commander spots... plus escort level manueverability and I'd assume science level shields. Explain your reasoning there OP!

Ya know, they introduce all these ships yet they can't even flesh out the faves most people ask for. There has been a huge group of peeps askin for a Akira retro for a long time.......why not?

You keep telling yourself that. And you keep buying things like an Excelsior, an Ambassador or a Vulcan ship.

While the Akira stays right where it is.

I think the idea is a sound idea. But it's been a sound idea SINCE BETA when people suggested it.

It's the C-Store that is currently causing alllllll of the issues with ships and tiers.

Hmm... you're right on the Boff slots. I'll fix the OP.

As to the maneuverabilitiy, those stats are copied directly from the Luna class, for the most part. The Nova seen in canon was about as maneuverable as an Intrepid (especially the Endgame refit), so it only seemed fair that a "modern" version would get maneuverability similar to an Intrepid.

The Intrepid retrofit's stats are as follows:
Turn Rate: 12
Impulse Modifier: 0.15
Inertia rating: 50

Since the Nova is a smaller ship, it stands to reason it would accelerate and turn faster (similar to how the Defiant can outmaneuver any other ship in the fleet).

Obviously Cryptic/CBS would tweak the stats however they want. This was just my suggestion.

Let's look at the "free ships" that are also C-store ships, shall we?
(Tier 4) Galaxy Retrofit - C-store, emblems, and VA token
(Tier 4) Intrepid retrofit - C-store, emblems, and VA token
(Tier 4) Defiant retrofit - C-store, emblems, and VA token
(Tier 5) Prometheus (MVAM) - C-store, emblems
(Tier 1) B'rel retrofit - C-store, emblems, and VA token
(Tier 4) Vor'cha retrofit - C-store, emblems, and VA token

Wait.... what's that? Oh look, there's a TIER 1 refit in that list.... the B'rel class. So that blows your theory out of the water.
