the akira helped beat the borg (some even surviving), and lasted in a sustained firefight with romulan warbirds.

just because they're often used as fodder doesn't mean they're ONLY fodder. the same applies to the miranda, excelsior, galaxy, birds of prey, vorchas, k'tingas etc.

PIS doesn't take away from the ship's natural ability.

Also you can get all t5 ships via emblems, too, and since that was introduced I dont have a problem with the C-Store ships any more. You have to work for it or you have to pay for it.

Now admittedly, that makes these ships 'free' in the same way that the Excelsior-R, Galaxy-R, Defiant-R, Entrepid-R, B'Rel-R, Varanus and Orion Patrol Cruiser are free.

I think this is a great idea. I know plenty of people who want a T5 Akira class, a few might even be willing to pay out to the C-Store to get one, though they would probably prefer some way of getting another VA/Ship token :p lol

It makes sense having a T5 Akira class I think. I mean as far I remember they were designed during the Cardassian war as a Torpedo Gun boat (15 torpedo tubes, yikes ) but were not actually deployed until the early 2370s to fight the Borg and Dominion threats. They became one of Starfleet’s leading warships and a test bed for a lot of the technology that was incorporated into the Sovereign class.
I would think its more than capable of holding its own in a VA level fight and even more so if “refitted” (I use the term loosely) with the latest technology.

The Nova class would be a nice edition too, especially the “Endgame” variant. As stated before in this thread the inclusion of the Galaxy X means that that alternative future ships would be available in game…
And I have to admit I’m a fan of the Nova class design, it was my fave lower tier ship

??!?!?
The Exceslior blew up on screen prety fast too, and is a t5. And I dont see were it did happen especially fast to the Akira. Also, teh Defaint went down, as seen on screen, prety fast when the plot needet it. Same for the Galaxy....
Also it is most liklely a newer class then the Defaint. I see absolutley NO REASON why it should be weaker -> in a lowe tier. And EVERY ship can be taken out by a good skilled captain, even the Scimitar.
HMMM You said it right the excelsior not the lakota which is a representation of the excelsior being upgraded. able to fire photon torpedoes and quatums as well as being able to take on the defiant.. This ship is also refitted after the akira produced. Minded you the akira was built in mass production before the lakota and the defiant. While you may try and missrepresent the truth by only stating half of it. It is clear that the ship is not weak at all.

With a lt cmdr slot for tactical it can launch 4 torpedoes, it also can launch figthers if you have them. it can also do all the attributes it did on screen. I am talking about the akira. I do not see the ship getting any end of the short stick. I am not going to try and well go tit for tat on this. the scene is there. you see two akiras get destroyed one of which out right blows up. galaxy gets damaged not blown up.

As to your reason, it's not valid, because they've already refit a tier 1 ship. That means they can refit any ship they want, with CBS approval. C-store has nothing to do with it.
Do you mean the B'Rel?

Klingon ships have an even more difficult to understand logic behind them.

But I keep pointing out that this idea, which is an idea I myself LIKE, has been around since day 1. And they're busy making an OBERTH? An Oberth.

It's the c-store. And their complete inability to explain their tier logic at all, because of the c-store, that is keeping this idea down.

There's no other explanation that makes any sense whatsoever. None.

I talking about the Excelsior CLASS.

And where EVER was established that the Akira was build in "Mass production"? We saw definitly bigger MASSES of Excelsiors. And it was neighter mentionet when exactly the Lakta was "refittet" (Actually she wasnt refitet at all, just equipet with better weapons without mentioning that in the books) nor when the Akira was build, since we saw her in Firt Contact the first time wich played out AFTER the Paradise-episodes very likley that it was build AFTER the Defaint wich was a delayed prototype anyway and already had some years of service. So your arguments have no base at all. There is absolutley NO indication tthat its weaker then the defaint and it is most likley stronger then the Excelsior.

Also we are speaking of game play balance here. The T3 Akira is not a real option at VA at all, and people want to play it there.

You should check your timeline again. The Lakota refit was completed by 49170.65 (2372), whereas the Akira class was first seen on screen in 50893.5 (2373).

It stands to reason that the majority of Excelsior-class ships would have been refitted prior to or during the Dominion War. That places refit Excelsior's on par with the larger Akira class. In addition, it stands to reason that Starfleet would continue producing new ships, including the Akira class.

We do know that both the Excelsior and Akira were still in service upon Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant in 54973.4 (2378).

As to capability, you can watch a battle compilation here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWi-pJLO2m4

In that video, you'll see Vor'cha's (tier 5), Galaxies (tier 5), Excelsiors (tier 5), BoP's (tier 5), Akiras (tier 3), Mirandas (Tier 0), Sabers (tier 1), Defiants (tier 5)... all figting beside each other, all dying together in various scenes. No ship is immune to death.

The point being, the Akira is no less a viable ship than other tier 5 ships.

The T5 Excelsior is pretty much the exact reason why a T5 Akira is continually ignored.

I view this in a similar light. The Rhode Island retrofit should be available at some point towards endgame (even if that means future end game). Same with a buffed up Akira. Also if you ask me the Tier 2 and tier 3 sciences should be inverted. The base design of the Tier 3 science classes, the original Daedalus classes that were "Death Stars on a Stick", that base design predates even the TOS Connie. The Nova on the other hand, is developed out of the Defiant Pathfinder, and was conceived as a smaller short ranged version of the Sovereign. So I have no idea why its tier 2, which are all based of the original Daedalus, is Tier 3. Because honestly, if the argument is that its a new ship design based off the Daedalus, well then *points to line 4 of DecadeComplete's sig*
