Perhaps this topic is best for Ten Forward?

At any rate, I'm surprised a game based purely upon the 2009 Star Trek film hasn't sprung to life before now. With the sequel to that specific film in the works I suppose timing might be good.

As completely off topic and unrelated to STO as this is, I'm glad it will be for PC. That means a few months after its out I can look forward to picking it up on the cheap from Amazon

I think there's an angle to this that is directly related to STO.

This game has the Paramount movie license.

STO can't make any uniforms or ships from the movie.

Could this game be what's holding that back?

I wish it were actually that simple

Unfortunately STO couldnt use anything(well, items, not story elements) from the 2009 movie long before the game in question even started development. The simplest answer is because STO's licensing deal is with CBS, not Paramount. And as the Devs have stated in the past, it is up to CBS to negotiate any deals with Paramount for what STO could use from the 2009 movie, not Cryptic themselves.
