# 1 USS Dauntless needed!
06-07-2011, 06:38 PM
Hey I am tired of all the boring styles of Federation ships, give us some from the shows that made small appearences like the NX-01A USS Dauntless, sure it was not a real Fed ship but it was very cool looking.

As much as it annoys me how many people thing the Dauntless is a Federation ship (I don't care if it can be seen through the window on the Enterprise-J, you can see the Nova and Prometheus too, it's not the first time they reused ship models...sorry for the mini-rant) I can see the Dauntless being a somewhat popular C-store item.

If they do make it, it should not have warp drive but slipstream all the time. I think it would be AWESOME!

Considering how close the Dauntless hull is to existing Federation ship designs already (especially the Prometheus), it stands to reason that Starfleet might adopt that design, especially for a slipstream-capable design.

There is no canon evidence that proves the Federation did use it (since the ships seen in Azati Prime are not positively identified as Federation ships), however logic would suggest it as at least a possibility.

I actually thought it might have been a nice testbed ship for starfleet to perfect the slipstream drive. In Voyager they were able to make it work for the Intrepid but from what I remember it was limited due to the ships structure(for whatever reason). When Voyager got back in addition to developing slipstream technology it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they would use a starfleet like design known to work well with the slipstream drive. Given that we have the borg engines to increase our speed and the Excel has many added transwarps giving this ship extended/permanent slipstream might be a nice ability.

About the Nova, Prometheus and Dauntless:

The Nova and Prometheus classes were among the most versatile and modern ships at the time they were build. It does not seem unreasonable that thoose would remain in service as the workhorse of starfleet, just like the Miranda, dispite being more than 100 years old, still remains in service, and are good enough to even serve at the frontline during the dominion wars.

Provided my math is correct (wich it might not be), the Prommie and Novas would only be around 150 years old at the time of the Battle of Procyon V, so thoose we saw in Enterprise, might just be the "new Mirandas".

The Dauntless.. now thats a whole diffrent story. One might argue that since that particular ship, while not being Fed, was designed for Slipstream, so copying the design itself might be a shortcut for Starfleet to slipstream.
After all the Voyager crew did spend a fair amount of time on that ship, so it is not unreasonable that a similar ship would have been developed eventually.

I guess you did not read my post correctly since I did say that I know the NX-01A is not a Federation ship but was created to fool the crew of voyager. I just want some cooler looking ships heck I would be happy if they gave us Tin Man at some point!

That would be cool to have a ship that only traveled in slip stream, it would have to be only available when you reached Vice Admiral then.

I'm okay with the Dauntless design added, and only available at VA. My question is what type of ship would it be, and what would the bridge layout be? I would recommend it be a Science ship with Commander Sci, Lt. Commander Engineer, Lt. Tac and Science, and Universal Ensign slots.

I see your point, but this ship would be better suited as a Escort.

1: The ship has no facilities of luxury of any kind (no holodecks and so on).

2: The ship is relatively small, and has only small compartments from what we've seen. (Provided they design the ship like the imposter ship).

3: The general shape of the ship is better suited for speed and manuverability (obviously, since the ship was designed for faster-than-warp flight).

Personally I'd think a escort with a engeneering oriented BO layout would be best for this ship.
