This sounds like a really fun build. It probably works amazingly on an Excelsior, but probably not as well for the slower-turning ships. I think I'll stick with beams for now, but when the Ambassador comes out, I might give this a try, though probably with disruptors for the hull debuff.

Are you running this with a tactical captain? It seems like you'd get the most out of this build with damage boosting skills rather than engineering ones (nadion inversion, etc.)

Ive always loved my Tac captains, even as overshadowed by Sci and Eng as they are..

If you really want to fly a cruiser that shoots cannons, I suggest you try a Klingon captain.

Why would anyone want to do that? :p

I stuck with the typical model right now...tac in an escort, eng in a cruiser, sci in a sci vessel. But a while ago, just for grins, I put my sci in an escort and I absolutely loved it. I went back to the Intrepid, but I wonder how much I'd enjoy using a tac in a cruiser.

Engineers are by far the kings of ground combat, but their effectiveness in space is becoming less and less.

Try putting your Eng in a Sci. Epic tanking with all of the Sci goodness

a tac in an excelsior is great fun. she's my top damager for sure, with 1,600,000 damage in a cap and hold a week ago. my engineers aren't to far off damage wise actually, its really easy for them to run super high weapons energy levels. with over 200 weapons power when EPS transfer is used i can fire off 8 beams and the power doesn't drop below 125, so all 8 shots are doing their max damage. nadion immersion has a similar effect, just becase the drain is cut by ~75%

I find this build interesting, but why no torpedoes?

A good deal of DPS cruisers don't use torpedoes, as I've been finding out. With max power to weapons, a full barrage of cannon fire can deal a LOT of damage, especially over time. Id hate to wind up against her in an escort.

Imagine if she were using phasers or disruptors? You'd proc about once every minute.

I went against her in my Sci - I saw more Polaron procs in one battle we had than I've seen since this game launched. Definitely hindered my ability to heal myself.

The obvious weakness of this build is lack of spikes.

Must be bad luck...I have also met her in battle, and while the polaron sound and procs were annoying, it was barely noticeable. On the other hand I have very bad luck with phaser procs, seems they really like me.

But well at least it was not another FAW spamming excelsior

It would be a great build for STF, with (borg) weapons. The amount of (borg) procs would really make difference. Considering my 3 turrets on nebula do considerable dmg with rapid fire I on borgs.
