I've been looking at all of the engineering consoles, and after all this time I'm still not sure what to go with. As a sci ship, should I focus on consoles to boost aux power? I try to shield tank as well, so would boosts to shield power be more effective?
IIRC, crew only helps with hull recovery, and usually only Cruisers have the amount of crew to make a difference. With one crew recovery console, I do a full recrew of my Star cruiser in a speedy way, and can get my hull from 1% back to 100% in about 40 seconds. Of course, if my ship is at 1% I usually do not have those 40 seconds to recover. And 40 seconds is quite a long time in combat. But if I'm not engaged in close range combat, have my ship pointing in the right way and hit Emergency Power to Engines and Evasive manoeuvers, I have a chance of getting out of range and survive my own stupidity.
As for shield and power, those are controled by consoles and power settings. If crew has some kind of impact in their recovery, it should be minimal.
Would crew recovery be any help in the intrepid class? Wouldn't it increase shield, power, and hull recovery?
As it currently stands, Crew is useless.
The only thing it does is boost the tiny +X boost that you get for 5 seconds off of XTeam and your passive, out of combat, hull regeneration rate (which you can repair much faster via hull heals anyways).
Field generator XI +35% to shields
EPS consol XI +105% powertransfer
Make your balance setting have max aux , in balance I run 35/49/61/124
Start off balanced with max aux
Drop your aux dependent skills on this setting , Tachyon, CPB, Tykens, Grav Well, Scramble, Sensor Scan etc
Then immediately switch to your attack setting and shoot up thier rear
When healing you can switch quickly back to maximise hazards, transfer shield strength etc
I switch all the time during fighting between settings depending on what is required, don't forget max power engines to and switch to max shields to heal shields quicker and get better resists

the 35% shield capacity engineer console is a must on any ship, and then yes an aux console will ensure you are running at 125 aux, while still having high shield power. as far as weapons go be a torpedo boat and use your science powers to crush your targets shields. my klingon science ship uses dual photon launchers and repulsors 3 with targeting of shield systems and shield drains to utterly annihilate all who oppose me. ive crushed dreadnaughts with just the fully buffed repulsors by charging them at high speed with evasive and keeping myself within the 5km range, shoving them 30+km from friends to heal them while dealing massive damage with each pulse all the while pounding them with my dual beam bank (which sat in the low 70s for power setting with shields over 100 and aux maxed at 125) and torpedoes raining down upon it.
