# 1 Engineering build for STFs
08-17-2011, 08:33 AM
Right seeing I never really spend any time in the major PVE end game part I thought I give it a shot, however I am and always have been fully PVP space specced which meant close to as makes no difference zero ground combat skills.

So I need a solid build for what is most desires from engineers, this means skills points build, ground weapons, kit etc and also space ship and BO layout.

Appreciate any help given

(PS must admit I prefer a DPS role, if at all possible)

I'm interested in this as well, but I have very little experience with a ENG Captain, looking into this for my brother mainly.

I haven't had time to do a STF Post-Season4 but I can give you some info on what I do know and hopefully this can be used as a starting point

First off, the ship you are using. If you want pure DPS go with an escort, 2xDual heavy cannons, dual beam bank, and a torp(photons have higher damage per second while quantums have higher damage delt they are pretty much on even terms its what you perfer) Front. I'm not entire sure what the Aft build would look like, I'm sure there will be a turrent or two to help with C:RF.
If you want to use a Cruiser, the Excelsior Refit is awesome with steady DPS and Lt Commander tactical. If you dont have the marks (or dont want to spend money) go with a Sovereign. I LOVE my Sovereign as a good sized crew for hull repair and has steady DPS, but lacks the turn rate of an Excelsior. The Galaxy Refit is great for a DPS/Support hybrid and the saucer seperation turns the main part into a kind of excort, but you cant take damage all that well (the extra mobility isnt that much helpful since Cruisers depend on broadside attacks anyways)

Ground GET A TRIBBLE! I still love my BestBuy Tribble the 3 buffs come in handy and stack very nicely with my Liberated Borg captain. If you can get a Borg Tribble that would be perfect for STFs, if you dont/wont spend the money on it, a Mat Tribble will do just fine (it has + damage resistance and health regen)
Weapons: The Borg now adapt per shot, so you're going to want to have something that shoots less but hits hard. Also, a knockback is going to work wonders so something like a High Beam or Sniper Rifle will help you. The Mark of Valor (RA emblems) are still pretty good as they have a +Damage Against Borg so if you happen to have any left over from RA, pick up a Sniper Rifle.
Kits I know Pre-Season4 Fabrication Specialist was the way to go. 2 Drones, plus Phaser turret and mortar (great for knocking down the Borg, but has a long "cast" time. Not sure if this is still the bread winner for Post-Season4) The Medical Gen redesign has made it really worth having, it gives health based on a given area so stand in the area and you wont die. I'm not sure how the Shield Gen compares nowadays.
Shields You're an Engineer so you'll get a Personal Shield Charge, so aim for a Shield [Cap]x2 or 3 And then get a body armor that has either Hit Points, or Sheild Regen just to balance things out (this is a personal option for me, I like to have alittle extra shield regen so I can stay up just alittle longer until Shield Recharge is off cooldown.)

Keep in mind the STFs are getting a revamp in about a month, so what I say now may not apply later. That said, they are very easy at the moment, so if you want your borg gear, now would be a good time to try and get it.

First of all, the STFs are ground heavy except for KA. They 'can' be done without any ground skills, but it will go faster if you have points in ground skills. This is especially true for tacs, less so for engineers.

Second, have a variety of kits. Don't lock yourself into just 1 kit. I frequently change kits depending on the situation. You can easily purchase blue mark IX kits for EC on the KDF side (only 10K EC). Get them all. For engineers, I think there are 5 main kits. Fabrication is not as useful now. Nor is bunker kit. But both of these can still come in handy in certain situations. Enemy neutralization has become popular as Mines and transphasic bomb got a significant buff with season 4, so now it actually can do some decent damge. And with heavy and elite tacs doing some heavy hitting these days, weapon malfunction works wonders. I've also found equipment technician to be useful for tanking Rebecca. You get damage resist as well as shield recharge.

Ground weapons, have at least 1 sniper rifle. It now has 45m snipe range. I usually run with 2. Pulsewave does decent DPS too, but you will need to be closer to your target. I don't recommend minigun or other multiple shot wepons as the borg adapt on a per shot basis. TR-116 is good if you have it as it bypasses the adaptation.

For space, KA is DPS dependent. As an engineer, you could go with fleet escort. If you prefer cruiser, the excelsior would be a good DPS choice.

as far as ground equipment/skills for engineers go:

Bunker Fabrication used to be my first choice for infected and KA. fabrication specialist for the cure.
right now i only run fabrication specialist on the main parts of all stfs. i am specced in personal shields, turrets and drones. nothing else. rest is space.
that might change with the stf revamp though.
for the infected boss room i use equipment technician. extra shield charge, diagnostics and weapons malfunction.

weapons:
for the "indoor" missions with al those narrow corridors (infected/ka) i use 2 pulsewave assault, different energy types for slower adaption. on the infected boss room i use sniper/high density beam to push the tac drones into the plasma faster and have more range on the boss.
on the cure i use sniper/pulsewave. 2 sniper rifles for the cure boss if you are not tank, which is usually a sci. if you tank, bring a knife

I'm interested in this as well, but being a new player, I'm a bit lost. I'll be playing my Eng. with a buddy of mine, and we are both working towards end-game STF's (he's a Sci). Would anyone be willing to post a good Excelcior-refit build with BOFF abilites from like stoacademy's skill planner? Basically I'm looking for a good mix of DPS and survivability (I don't want to take 10 minutes killing one ship), as well as the ability to not be totally useless on away teams. I appreciate any advice you can give!

Well for a ground weapons vs to the borg I stick to my TR-116

Also got borg and riveria tribble

anyway from the sound of it, I need a few focused ground skills either support or dps related and for a ship I can take the old lady out for a spin.

will take a look at that later on, thanks for the answers thus far.

Since Seaon 4 updates, I see a lot more engineers loving the use of Orbital Strike.
I for one (as a TAC) love running STF's with ENG people. I hit a heavy or elite tac drone with Fire on my Mark III, and then the ENG people in my team hit Orbital Strike.
Quite usefull for cure if you want to clear out the drones as they beam in to disarm the transmitters

I have what worked best before season 4 but now I just die, no matter what I use
