Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Techie trait improves engineering skills which will affect your repair abilities like extend shields, engineering team, and miracle worker.

Astrophysicist improves operations skills which can improve Transfer Shield Strength and Hazard Emitters.

Sci may be medics on the ground, but Eng are the 'healers' in space. Yes, Sci does have some great skills like Hazard Emitters, but Engineers can really put up the heals.

Yup. Cruisers are STO's healers/Tanks imo, while SCI ships have the hold/crowdcontrol/interups ect.

At least thats how I see it. Don't get me wrong Sci's can heal up a storm with full aux and Hzrds 3 or TSS, but a cruiser can really pump out more spot heals imo.

The heals from HE cannot compare to engineering team. Same goes for TSS v.s. Extend Shields

Hazard Emitters is the best hull heal in the game hands down. No engineering power comes close. (maybe miracle worker but you gotta be an Engineer Captain for that) I run two copies on all my science ships. You can chain them together and they also grant a hefty damage resistance as well.

Engineering Boffs are much better used for shield healing powers like EPtS and RSP.

Run two copies of HE, 2 copies of TSS and a Science Team. Use your Engineer for EPtS1 and RSP1 or EPtS2. Now you are an uber healer. Instant heals like engineering team and aux2sif are useless because they are so weak. Enemy focus fire will still cut your allied ships to pieces. You need sustained healing and damage resist from HE in order to save them.

I use a mix of Engineering Hull and Science heals myself. Goes good with the Nebula, which is pretty much a crusier in a lot of way. When I team with my fleetmates I'm the CMO of it all.

Now if I could ONLY stop them from charging ahead and torquing off the enemy forces.

Yes, that is some uber self-healing. Your teammates will be thrilled to bask in the glow of how alive you are while they're getting pounded to dust on your watch.

All science heals can be used on yourself AND others which is why I recommend using Engineering slots for self-heals when you fly a science vessel.
