Attack Pattern: Beta + Attack Pattern: Alpha + GDF + FoMM = Eject Warp Plasma 3 doing over 1,500/sec. I actually had it do over 2,000/sec on a target that had debuffed in addition to my own.

So what BO powers do you guys recommend? I'm at Tactical Captain 7 in my exploration cruiser. Right now I've got Engineering Team I, EPtW II, RSF II, and Aceton Field II or III on one guy and EPtS I and II on the other. For tactical powers, I've got HY I and AP: Beta while my science guy has Science Team I and Hazard Emitters II.

That depends on what you want...Offense or Defense??

In Eng, I went DEF, on Sci & Tact are offense...Since Tact Capt do NOT have any Defensive pwrs like Eng cptn's I made my Engineering BO's DEF w/ EPS 1 & 2 / Eng Tm 1 & 2 / Aceton Field 3 (Only OFF pwr) / Shield Dmp one that gives pwr to shields by sucking beam attacks 3....I have enough defense to compensate shields and hull, and w/ the consoles I have I have 125wpns & 85 Shlds

You'll get better mileage out of Eject Warp Plasma or DEM instead of Aceton Field.

I never ever flew a cruiser with my Tac because I never wanted to be the "gimped" version of a cruiser. Then I met a couple great cruiser pilots that I was suprised to realize were, in fact, tac captains. I'm really not sure I've ever seen either one of them die to one opponent which got me thinking, but I loved my escort and couldn't stand the manuverability differences.

I have to say this thread has been hilarious to read. There are so many "informed" folks that apparently haven't met a skilled tac/cruiser captain.. probably because they don't PVP half as much as they claim. I will say that as a cloaked escort I always targeted the Tac/Cruiser because.. yes he is in 9 out of 10 much easier to gank in a OMGUJUSTGOTOWNED alpha strike than an engineer.

I finally got sick of all the major surivabilty buffs STO keeps releasing and hopped in a cruiser out of boredom and suprisingly I'm doing fantastic. There is one major difference between an engineer and tac cruiser captain and that is a skilled engineer can definately tank more opponents at once for longer periods of time, however considering I can tank 2 people easily and pop them both if given enough time uninterupted says enough. I can actually tank 3 or more but not for very long without getting out of range of their weapons. This doesn't bother me at all because my role as a tac/cruiser is a little different than an engineer/cruiser. I help my team by dishing out high damage and even through out considerable burst but in the bat of an eye I can become an effective tank and also through out some nice heals and resists without sacrificing anything. I love getting targeted because people see the red command logo and then they find out the hard way that they just wasted all their dps on me instead of the defiant on their AFTs.

This is only after a week of solid cruiser gameplay-I tried a Star Cruiser once before. Bottom line: learn to manage your power levels. Dont try to become some super tank observer crap build because it won't work for you. Tank the cruiser and pop his escort buddy while he is focused on popping you because... its fun.

Sounds good, but what offensive sci powers are there? I haven't found any that are give as much utility as science team and HE II.

Just have to realize that Tac Escorts are glass cannons. They pack one hell of a punch when spiking, but explode if looked at wrong. Tac/ Cruisers are a slightly smaller... Aluminum cannon? More durable, still packs a punch and can break anything but an Eng Cruiser's tank. The only reason an Engineer's cruiser tank is any better than anyone else's is Rotate Shield Frequency. Which is a more powerful Emergency Power to Shields and doesn't share a cool down. It all comes down to do you want to make stuff go boom really fast and die when glared at by everything else? Or do you want to be a smaller cannon that dies only if 2+ Tac Escorts glare at them. or 3 Cruisers/Science ships? Because I can hold down 3 cruisers without sweating too much.

Good PVPers though will always have two escorts who work in tandem to assault a single shield facing which is easily countered by Reverse Shield Polarity, if it's up.

I've had a read of this thread because I've chosen the tactical route, and I'm looking at a possible cruiser or science vessel command. I'm probably not going to go the science route as I'd like to spend as much time on the Cruiser path as I can on the way to a Sovereign or Noble.

Reading replies on the first and last pages, is it fair to say that opinions on the Tac/Cruiser specification have reversed since the game came out? I'm getting two very different opinions... One of which is that the Tac/Cruiser is 'squishy' in PVP (which I have not yet ventured in to, but likely will when I hit a decent rank) and the other opinion being that it could well be a wolf in sheep's clothing, and will outplay a Tac/Escort on many ocassions.

This said, I'm not a fan of any of the full CDR-level cruisers, so I'll probably (briefly) slip back to an Escort in the Akira class before I advance to the Sovereign.

Bit of a zig-zagging career, I suppose, but I'm eager to hear opinions.
I have a toon that pulled the exact same stunt months ago. An Akira works real well as long as you focus on dealing damage. Bash and dash that is the mantra. If you have not found it yet I recommend this thread, The Do's and Don'ts of Escort Play. Best of luck and in a Escort, Raptor or a BoP speed is life speed is your friend.

I've not got much to say about playing a tac/cruiser build as my only tac officer is still an LT but I'd advise if you have any interest in PvP whatsoever, that you try it sooner rather than later. Contrary to what many may say, you can get (good) PvP matches at the lower levels, although you may have to wait a while sometimes. PvP at the lower levels is a slower pace and lets you concentrate on your flying skills rather than BO abilities. If your first taste of PvP is at RA/VA level, you'll find it brutal and may be put off, which is a shame as it can be good fun when you get used to it.

I have been a Tac/Cruiser for a long time now with my sovereign and I just now started getting into pvp but with my set up and with pve i never really have to worry about my shields going down at all and never have to worry about my hull I find it really sweet. I love my cruiser and wont fly anything else. Now i am going to start getting into PVP so lets see where it gets me
