I like EWPIII don't get me wrong, but the 1500dmg/sec scenario will never happen in real world pvp unless the person is a oblivious to PvP.

The amount of +resists and hazard emitters getting tossed around just nueters it. You can get some solid 800dmg/sec though with the current state of the game in a real world scenario.

Ninja's correct about the damage, but i mostly use EWP3 to hold my enemy in one spot, & to destroy fighters..
Aceton field reduces the amount of damage you opponent causes, it does next to no damage itself.IF your running a DPS cruiser, i would recommend either EWP or DEM. DEM + APA +APB + BO or FAW= a world of hurt for someone

It's happened twice, when I was lucky enough to get a PuG that coordinated. The target used Hazard Emitters, but then had it quickly SNB'd off.

Thank you for validating my choices on the "fun" of it all. I have a Phoenix Heavy @ CMDR4 and routinely do well against lots of baddies.

I did focus on building officers who are oriented to certain types of tasks, e.g. a medical officer, a ship sciences officer, a tactical styled engineer, a bridge skilled TacOff.

Cheers- K

I haven't had the same issues others have in PvP as a tac/captain. I tend to be in near the top in damage for my team and my +/- is usually in the plus (can't remember last time I had a bad night in PvP). My fight strategy has a lot to do with this -- I try to play as a team and not as a solo bounty hunter. I'll aim for ships my teammates are already targeting as often as possible.

I also make sure I allocate skill points to my shields and weapons and bring healing abilities in my engineers BOs (EPtS I & II, RSP -- tho thinking of switching one of those to a hull heal). I use the Patrianic (spl) shield array which, though it has low regen, has super high capacity that levels up with you and your ship, so I can take a beating. For science I enjoy using Energy Pulse (not sure if that's the correct name), which deals out some damage to ships attacking me. And since I can take a beating I can stay in the fight longer and dish out a beating in the process -- something my tact skills provide, plus EPtW (eng) and tachyon beam (sci) helps in the process.

Shoot me a message if you want to know exactly what I have set up. It's not perfect, but it fits my playing style. What matters is this: If you want to be a tact in a cruiser, then be a tact in a cruiser.

About the only real way is to assign universal BOFF slots to all ships...then you can use pretty much any ship you want regardless of your chosen profession.

While some of you have never ever ever look at star trek shows or movies or at least paid attention to them. Their is a reason why certain captains have command of certain ships. A captain can choose their ship in starfleet. Each captain is trained and gear towards a certain career. You have your career before you have a ship class. universal slots in all areas is not star trek.

A tactical captain can fly a cruiser but they should fly and excelsior. This ship is gear towards them. As history shows that ship is for tactical captains. If you are a tac and you fly a galaxy then you will have some trouble. your career is gear towards the front while the galaxy is the middle of the pack come out of no where and beat you like a red head stepchild on crack.

Engineering captains are people in the federation who are gear towards building the federation and exploring outward in reach having a backbone and then knowing when and how to use it. The galaxy and soverign are the beast of the pack. both are bad boys

Science captains are more about understanding a ships weakness and exploiting it. coming up with answres and thinking before firing. figuring out your weakness and then another. it is gear towards understanding the unknown.

I know where this thread is going. if you are only about pew pew pew and not learning anything then you will want universal slots or blank ships and fit 100 weapons on them. I blame cryptic for this because they tolerated all of the lazy and sorry to say morons who dont actually want to use their brain or use team work but run and gun in with no thought in mind. This is not to say all of you fit this bill but many of you should be ashamed of yourselves as trekkies to sit here and want BS when you know this is not what star trek is all about.

SHAME ON YOU. This is not logical. This is not logical even from a human prospective.

I have a tac in a Negh'var battle cruiser. Damned lovely combo. I can pop even other (unprepared) cruisers in seconds from cloak.

It can be a disappointment if you expect to be a tank, but if you view yourself as a super heavy escort, damned it can be a nice combo.

Outside of klinks though, with their more maneuverable cruisers, probably not as useful....

Really? Come now. There is no right way to play the game. Nothing in the world is wrong with being tac in a cruiser. Me? I do fly an excel refit. But I don't see a problem with a tac in another type. It is true that a Tac in an Escort has a good chance if played right of being the best dps possible. But all the ships work with all the careers. Knowing your roll is important. But boxing people in limits your thinking. I agree that you need to fulfill your roll in a group, and if you don't like your roll then maybe it is time to re-roll. But a Galaxy with 8 phaser banks and correct Engineering powers is plenty enough dps to deal with any PVE situation.
