the through carrier concept did not make the final cut, it is not cannon and not possible. Regardless of what you have read about it online, you can see in pictures of the actual computer model they used for filming that there are not forward doors on the front of the saucer, just a few big windows. itís the same with the STO akira model. The federation fighter craft that we have seen are twice as tall as the space allotted for doors too, the akira is not nearly large enough to accommodate them, even if it had front doors and a through shuttle bay. The only shuttle bay that could have held them and brought them to the front lines, assuming they didnít warp there themselves, is the main shuttle bays of the galaxy class.

The whole torpedo gunboat concept is canon though, that same computer model they used for filming that, again, does not show front doors, does show about 15 torpedo launchers. But do you guys really want to trade a 3rd engineering console for a special ability? The cryptic trend points to the top torpedo pod detaching and being a torpedo spewing pet. Watch, it will happen. NO THANK YOU.
I dont want a Carrier but there are some people that do...and if they pay for it I feel they should have it. I hate to burst your bubble but the only thing that is canon is whats on film, or any of the tv series. I dont know who you think you were tying to inform but pretty much everyone in this thread knows the difference between concept drawings and canon...if you dont like the ship and dont want to see it at T5 then why comment

I hate the very idea of a Federation carrier, but if it had to be implememented it should definitely not be the Akira, its just not a carrier looking ship.

The torpedo idea has merit though, maybe an ability that changes based on the torps you have loaded, like Photons being able to put out a barrage of torps on targets in its field of fire, or transphasics having incredible shield penetration ability.

I agree...some sort of torpedo ability is a must to me for this ship. For a long time I've been saying that it should either be HYIV or just give it a shorter cooldown for the Akira.

Tbh I'd prefer a new ship we've not had before to fill the hole left by the Nebula and Excelsior T3/T5.

Or alternately a new ship at T3, and the Akira at T5.

We do have the Advanced Escort which is T5, and also the MVAM which is T5. So... well, kind of inconsistent. No matter how we go, things won't match up.

I respect your personal opinion and all but we really dont need another ugly Dervish Class flying around with no abilities

Well, in all fairness, it is not that the Dervish is ugly that makes it without abilities. None of the RA "stock" ships have special abilities.

I would like to see, however, special abilities added for all the RA ships, in the same way as the MVAM was added for the Prometheus; a new T5 ship with a removable module that can be placed in the old one. Then the Dervish or the Sovereign or whatever can get an ability.

Well said my friend...and I could'nt agree with you more. I too wish the other Escorts and the Sovereign were more usable at end game. But myself and alot of other people agree that the Akira should be a higher Tier. So give the Dev Team a chance with this ship and they just might make you fall in love with it at T5

Using an Akira at T5 doesn't fit the "Retro Ship Scheme".
T3/T5 Nebulas and Excelsiors have set the pattern.
Akira is already a T3, so it doesn't fit the to develop it to T5 as a special.
That's why I am still promoting the Steamrunner or Yeager. Both of which are Canon ships also.
