Did something crawl in and die inside you? I fly all types of ships in PvP. My Fed Engineer had a fleet escort that was hard to kill. My KDF Tac uses a negh'var that's set up to tank and it usually takes 3 ships focusing fire to kill him.

Any ship can be a pain to kill if set up correctly by the player flying it. I've gone up against ships that I shoot down to 20% hull left and then they suddenly get 100% hull back. As everyone else has said on this thread, learn to use your abilities and BOFF skills. Expecting a RA toon to survive against VA toons in PvP is like asking a college football team to win against a NFL team.

Here's an idea for ya, try asking people in game and on these forums to help you. I found some people in game that have helped me make my Fed Engineer better than what i had originally.

Decided to humor this concept. Loaded up Broken Planetoid. Me in my Defiant R, vs a Galaxy retro for one round, then a Gal X for the other.

There's a quote from earlier

Problem here is it was more like this.

Cloak---Get Close---Fire off buffs---Uncloak---begin 2-3 minute long run and gun battle as you try and bring just ONE shield facing down.

-- ---- --

Here's the problem of people wanting the Nerf. You're not working on your build. You can't look at yourself and go 'what do I need to fix' you're going 'what do they need to nerf?'

For the record I got destroyed by the Retro, but took the Gal X out after about 2 minutes of actual combat. There was no "decloak, everything dies".

Sorry, your typo made for an interesting development request

It's probably a bit premature to call for a nerf when you admittedly aren't even up to level cap but are facing off against more experienced players. Cloaked Alpha strikes can be incredibly effective but they can, and do, often fizzle out. Just pay attention and learn from getting instaganked.

Once you get up there and try it a few times you'll see what I mean.

I agree that the Cloak is cool and that its a fun ship to play, but the fact is its SO OP that its hard to tell that its an escort as opposed to one of the developers' personal toys that got loose. Cruisers and Science ships don't stand a chance against it, and the cloak only makes it that much more powerful. I've seen too many people using this strategy:

Cloak---Get Close---Fire off buffs---Uncloak---Lay waste and defeat in under 3 seconds---recloak
This is typically 1 on 1.

Even when you have a group, the ship can easily outgun the enemy 3-to-1.
ESPECIALLY When equipped with the Borg set. It is just TOO powerful.
No. Cant agree with you any less than how I disagree with you now. I have every ship in the game. Have flown every ship in the game in pvp, trying STFs, pve exploration, etc. I have these ships on all three careers on both sides.

The one thing that the Defiant-R doesnt need is a nerf. Balance is "ok" right now. You go through with the purposed nerfs and it would trash any desire to use that ship. That cloak is the same non battle cloak that the raptors use on the KDF side.

I've used that. And there are VERY easy ways to take out a Defiant. Its an escort. Use FBP or reverse shield polarity and just ride out the storm.

I have never seen a defiant-r do what you said it does. I've had three Defiant-Rs pounding on my Orion Peanut and I beat all three of them. I've taken on 2 on my Excelsior. And lasted through an onslaught 1v1 in my non refit escorts.

Its really easy to down a Defiant-R. Just takes using the skills you have or modifying them so you have a form of defense against the Defiant-R's burst damage. All ships can do this. With basic RSP-1 and FBP-1 you can outlast those. You can also give your shields a super buff by going Emergency power to Shields-1, and Science Team-1. I've used those to live through a Defiant's burst damage.

Lots of strategies to use. Just have some patience and you can figure it out. Calling for nerfs ruin games.

The Defiant R, needs no nerf, i might cream some people in my ship, but i guarantee once they get a hold of me, i last about 20 seconds.

uh maybe that is the problem. The defaint isnt OP its the same as anything else the only thing the cloak does is help hit someone that may otherwise not be ready for it, which isnt unfair. If i dont see an uncloaked ship and it hits me its the same as a ship decloaking and hitting me.

If i can take out T5 klink ships with my T3 akira with VA gear i think you can take out a defaint when you reach the rank where you should actually be fighting them.

Oh man

OK, first off, I currently fly a:

Star Cruiser (previously an Excelsior)
2x Intrepid-Rs
Deep Space Science Vessel
Negh'Var Battlecruiser
Defiant-R (previously a fleet escort)

So no "fly something else" comment apply to me. Needless to say, I have played most ships in game. Definitely all classes.

OK so first point:
Can a Defiant-R kill any ship class in less than 3s?
Yes
Why?
The other player was not paying attention and had not pre-emptively buffed. Once the attack started they were too slow in responding so they died.

Second:
Can a Defiant tank other ships?
Yes
Why?
He has 1) sacrificed attack strength for survivability 2) switched to defensive mode 3) an understanding of shield and hull hardening that surpasses your dps knowledge. 4) he is being healed by his team 5) he's a better pilot

Third:
If you are getting smacked about 1v1 in a cruiser, there is something seriously wrong with your build. My star cruiser can happily tank several escorts and their friends for long enough to roll up a cigarette, sit back and laugh my *** off.

I'm sorry to say, but as has been intimated already, the problem isn't with the ship, the problem is with you.

Well, if you think about it the Constituion Refit/Excaliber tier cruisers can't tank as good as a Defiant can
