I'd like to see latinum get involved, too. Possibly green trade assignments - last longer, give more exp, but buy/sell in latinum instead of EC.

Having tested this system on tribble I must say it is awesome!

For me it is very engaging trying to find assignments for my DOFFs. In addition I enjoy trying to match the best officers (if possible) to a given assignment. Finally, by the time I have finished finding assignments for all my DOFFs, many of the shorter missions finish allowing me to search out and find more assignments for those newly freed DOFFs.

The rewards are good in my opinion too. Particle traces, commodities, bridge officers, DL, and more DOFFs are just some of the many many rewards. Also, instead of just DXP (for diplomacy missions) now there are a whole slew of different types of "commendations" like trade, military, etc.. I think it is all really cool.

I am very much looking forward to this going live.

Bravo Cryptic! +1,000,000

# 1813 Latinum and other rewards

+1 vote for Latinum rewards. And, for that matter, Latinum being used in place of EC on trade missions.

While on the subject of rewards, I *love* that I'm getting all these particles without actually having to farm them myself.

much love to Cryptic for the engaging new aspect to STO!

I saw the assignments buffs you get from completing missions now display as little white boxes above your HUD.

We have updated the icons, but I think what may have happened is the icon references got updated on Tribble before the icons themselves did. It is appearing correctly locally, so it should resolve itself soon.

So, only white DOFFs can die on missions, others only end up in sickbay.

I have seen green DOFFs, I may have seen a blue/purple one (dont get me started on blue and purple!!!) - but I am unsure ... the white ones have no white frame, do they? The common, uncommon etc. in the DOFF dossier has nothing to do with this? What does the "crewman", "specialist" tell us?

As colors usually give me nothing but trouble, I tend to favor (for me) more easily recognisable things, like icons, numbers, insignia - could the DOFF icon get an overlay of some kind that makes it easier (for the colorly challenged) to tell, which kind they are?

And BOFFs are similar in this regard - at least to me - and maybe the remaining odd percentage of the population with "special vision". ^^

Thank you so much Heretic. I absolutely adore the Duty Officer System. For someone that does not get to spend as much time online during term time, being able to log in, pick assignments and come back to them later in the day or days later is great. The fact that i am rewarded whilst not being online because of personal commitments is a godsend right now. Not to mention how deep the system seems to go. There is a lot more to it than just random clicks here and there.

One thing i have noticed and this may be a little strange, but just like my Bridge Officers and my association to them, how can i describe this, like some digital friendship, a kind of favourtism as such. With having them for so long now, they are 'my' crew, the ones i know i can count on with away missions. Its weird i know, but i'm sure there must be a few others that think like this...?

*tumble weed* *sobs uncontrollably* :p

Anyway, i'm starting to get this with a few of my Doffs already (trying not to get too attached to them though, i will miss them when we go live). This is one of the reasons i love STO, and the feeling you get with your crew. Even though the Doffs are just portraits, there is still something so appealing about the whole look and feel of the UI. Maybe one day we will see these Doffs walking around your ship, replacing the generic crew that we see now. But for now, it is quite perfect.

Thank you again for all your work Heretic, i am really impressed (and very much addicted).

If it's any consolation, I got busted at work trying to log in real quick to get my Doffs working again. I can't wait for this to go live (once bugs are worked out, of course.)

I am wondering if we will see Federation and KDF Liberated Borg Duty Officers! If there is a thread on this already then accept my apologies. I am blown away by the new DoFF system. I can only imagine how awesome a Very Rare Liberated Borg Duty Officer would be. My two Liberated Borg Bridge Officers (Engineer and Science, respectively) are simply great. Can't wait to find out.

# 1820 Enlisted Ranks
10-15-2011, 08:38 AM
I hope it's been addressed before (I tried to read through all 182 pages, but it was too much!) but I hope that the enlisted ranks become organised and corrected before it goes ahead.

The screen shots have me very worried with things like Crewman included, but then Technician and Specialist thrown in. I'm also worried that you have in the example list Warrant Officers behind Petty Officers (WOs are higher than POs, and WOs have actually never really been included in most Star Trek series).

They are fine, of course, but you really need to make the ranks nice and uniform and not just throw in ranks and positions or you'll end up with something that makes about as much military sense as the current award system. You can still have Technicians and Specialists, but they should be the same grade as a Crewman.

An accurate and fairly canon set of enlisted ranks are as follows:
  • Crewman third class/second class/first class
  • Petty Officer third class/second class/first class
  • Chief Petty Officer
  • Senior Chief Petty Officer
  • Master Chief Petty Officer

I've edited the rank insignia from a screen shot to show what rank insignia for each enlisted rank might look like here http://startrekonlineblog.blogspot.c...ades.html#Rank but I'm missing some smaller markings to designate classes and the Senior CPO rank.

Please don't stuff it up!
