you think 3 carriers are bad...i walked into a C&H once with 6 carriers in it...LOL...imagine the chaos and choppy graphics, i still remember that game, there was so much spam a man couldve jumped his way across the entire map using the carrier pets
I am not in complete agreement with the above. Cruisers are easier to kill than carriers. Carriers have more shielding and more base hull than cruisers
Shield and hull numbers are virtually irrelevant. The big difference comes from BOff powers. It's hard for a cruiser to avoid having 2 copies of EPtS and an Engineering Team, but on a Carrier that uses a higher portion of it's engineering slots. The extra science slots can be used to cover, but carriers need those slots for offense, and science heals are very slow anyway.
The quick-cooldown defenses are all engineering, which puts cruisers at a major advantage defensively. With science powers it's not even possible to keep resists up full-time. Even if you can't SNB, just keeping sustained pressure on the carrier will force him into a weak spot in his rotation within about 30 seconds.
In a cruiser, you can keep EPtS 2 or 3 up 100% of the time, and then just use other abilities to cover SNB and spike damage, or to heal your team.
A competent carrier pilot will out last any competent cruiser pilot. Even after getting SNB'd a carrier could easily last more than a cruiser.
Carriers are almost always specced defensively, but cruisers are most often specced for DPS (not that they ought to be, but healing cruisers are less common). If a cruiser is loaded up with things like DEM (which competes with ES, ET 3, Aux to SIF 2 and 3, and EPtS 2 and 3), EPtW, and EWP, it's not going to have the same survival potential. But cruisers can be specced so that with all their primary defenses stripped away, they have enough backups to survive until the primaries come back.
The toughest time tanking in a healing cruiser comes when you've just dropped a ton of heals on someone else, because that puts most of your backups on cooldown.
In my cruisers I rarely beat carriers, but my Intrepid-R and Defiant-R eat them for lunch. My Intrepid is built to strip shields, and since most players shield-tank rather than hull-tank that normally puts the carrier in major danger. My Defiant is just built to do a ton of damage, but I can often decloak and drop a carrier to about half hull before they get their defenses stabilized. If 2 or more escorts or science vessels focus on the carrier, there isn't much they can do.
I have seen engs in a carriers tank 5 fed ships in cap and hold matches.
Most fed ships are cruisers, and most fed cruiser are built for DPS. Tanking against cruiser really doesn't count, because cruiser have got no spike damage.
first, the only thing that can kill a carrier is burst damage. If you have two, three, or four cruisers attacking a carrier, leave. Just leave.
That is why you always lose C&H and arena. You see a big carrier and attack it while 5 bop decloak and tear up the place. You see the BOP's decloak and YOU STAY ON THE CARRIER. Carriers doesn't even need power to its weapons.
