# 1 Drydock (Ship modeling)
06-19-2011, 06:52 PM
Hey everybody, I haven't been able to do very much in game over the last year, but I've been trying to keep up with things here. I wanted to write some RP stories and create some images for them. Most of this stuff is far from finished, but I wanted to post some of the starships and shuttles I've been working on.

A (heavily customized) Excalibur class model of my character's ship, the USS Idoru:

Various shuttlecaft:

Ambassador class ship (unnamed):

Hopefully I can get some of these finished and textured so I can do proper renders of them.

That looks like the standard Ambassador, you planning on rendering the Zhukov variant as well? :p

I was actually taking bits and pieces from the Zhukov variant that I thought looked better for this. The dorsal section, shuttlebays, and nacelles would have to change, but I don't think it would be too hard to do.

fantastic work, as a fellow 3D artist your skills are well appreciated, what software do you use? Also care to share your technique for such smooth and elegant soft-body modelling?

haha nice

And thanks! I'm hoping I can get these fairly close to the series/movies when they're done

@Momiji It's always great to meet other artists, especially in places like this. I'm building all of these in Hexagon, a modeler from DAZ3D. While its not quite as powerful as Blender or 3DS, etc., it does the job and I got it at a decent price.

I'll have to go post some shots of the mesh to show how its put together, but here are a couple of update shots from what I did today:

Oh yeah Daz3D, I've never used that software, always been a user of 3Ds myself. You can get the same kind of results but it's very difficult, still trying to perfect a technique.

*looks at Cappy* There were typos!?

Hope you make more renders. Would love to see your render of a Cerberus-class escort.
