# 1 Magic Cards
06-23-2011, 07:47 PM
I was cleaning the house tonight when I came across my collection of 283 Magic the Gathering cards. I have some from as far back as Mirage and even a few that were part of the Alpha Deck. It has been a while since I last played.....

i used to love that game, even if the rules did get more complex than quantum physics.

i played it online for a while too. there was this one guy who just loved spawning elves or fungus or something and at one point hand about 30 1/1 creatures on his side. he could have crushed me at any moment but instead of attacking he just kept building up and up and up and somehow i managed to get the right set of cards.

you could tell he was one of those players that just added more and more stuff on the field until you just quit.

and then i beat him

is it sad to say that was one of the best moments in my life?

I played a guy like that. But I always used a pair of 3/3 landwalk creatures. Even though the guy set up five or six 1/1 creatures he couldn't use them to block and I would usually beat him in a short amount of time.

I was that anomaly of the hobby, the guy who collected the cards for the sake of collecting the cards. I never actually played a single game (I watched others play, I knew how to play, etc). I still have a binder of card sheets with my full set of 3rd Edition Revised (I also ended up with some Alpha and Betas (nothing earthshattering, novelties mostly) from trades). I also have a box of my doubles and a bazillion land cards (like any collector, I'm sure).

I should have sold the lot on eBay when it was still popular. Oh well...

To think those cards are older than many of the posters on this forum.

(MtG Alpha came out in 1993 - 18 years ago!)

I have been unsuccesful in my attempt to get my wife interested. "Aren't you a little old to be playing with those?"

I'm 29 (in four weeks). I'm not that old.

Don't worry. I'm 36. I have my binders of unplayed cards and '5000' boxes full of extras to play with.

Last I played with was a 'Thallid Salad', which is where you spawn billions of 1/1 thallids. But that's been years; never played online other than in single player mode.

Ah, memories.

I love magic.

And even though the card isn't all that spectacular a favorite of mine has always been the Vizzerdrix for the pure fact it's a giant, monstrous, pink bunny.
