# 1 Can STO be hacked?
06-23-2011, 10:46 PM
Now I'm not asking for a hack, I'm not asking how it can be done, I'm just asking if it could be done before I make myself look stupid (that's if I already haven't with this post) before I report a player. I was just in pvp, C&H with my Fed Sci, I can tank against most players. I'm not saying I'm awesome but I can usually hold my own for at least a couple of minutes against any player, however, tonight a KDF in a BoP took me out before I could click on anything.

And I don't mean it took him a few seconds to drop my shields and waste me, he destroyed me in the span of literally 3 seconds, maybe less. I could accept this if this happened to me a lot, then I could bring myself to the conclusion that I'm just a god aweful pvper with crap skills, gear, and just simply can't play pvp worth a crap, but that's not the case, this is the first and only time it happened to me.

All of the other players would either have to focus fire on me, or it would take one ship a while to take me down, if they could. But this player killed me within the time it took me to realize I was even being attacked.

So, is this an uber pvper those skills is literally unmatched by no other, or is he doing something illegal to wipe ships out in seconds?

I highly doubt the player was hacking. Did you check your combat logs to see what he hit you with and for how much damage?

If I were to hazard a guess I am going to say you got caught with a very lucky beam overload 3 followed immediately by a high yield torp hit. While hard to pull of sometimes, I have taken out a few escorts and cruisers in such a manner. It just takes timing and some good critical hits. Just the other day I caught an excelsior completely stopped in a capture and hold. I popped a weapons battery, all of my buffs, and took him out in about 3-4 seconds. Only time that has happened that quickly but it can happen.

Just report the player. Delete this before you get yourself in trouble.

Also, the player was probably just skilled and had good timing.

Destroying a science vessel with a BoP in about 3 seconds before they get a chance to hit any powers?

I've done that a few times when I have occasionally PvPd. Science vessels are a pain if they get powers off, but if you don't give them a chance, they explode very quickly.

You just got ambushed by a well played BoP while you were (I assume) distracted. Doubtful he was hacking, he just got the jump on you.

And for the record, this is what BoPs are made for

I'd tend to agree...

My PvP experience isn't that vast here...but I've studied a lot of the BOff skills and such.

I know there are skills that will cause super amounts of damage.....

I for one, like the combo of Beam Overload + Dual Beam Array. This can give a seriously painful punch and could easily rip thru shields....and combine that with Torps...could pop a ship pretty quick.

I've only used Beam Overload II so far with a DBA...and I get some serious numbers with that.

Plus there's the fact that the BoPs are all universal BOff slots...so that can open up some seriously nasty configurations.

Also depending on what the weapons were being used....each one has their own proc...that could aid in your bad day.....

Tetryon Dual Beam Array + Beam Overload....if the shield damage proc hits...more then likely you have no shield left.

Tthanks guys!

I just been pvping for a while and never got taken out this quickly so it just had me weirded out. I mostly wanted to know if this is common and can be done legally, I really didn't want to report him unless other players came on this thread and said "Yeah, there's something fishy about that"..

Against a skilled Science captain a BOP player would be hard pressed to do the damage required. I pvp a lot. on both factions. though i have seen some incredible players with BOPs who even give my cruiser a run for it's money. I have never seen a hacker in STO and thankfully never had someone accuse another of hacking.

Geoff my friend, I'm afraid you are a victim of a Cloaked Ambush attack.

One minute you are tanking one, two, or even three players, then all of a sudden your space debris. This is due to BoP's, Raptors, and Defiants fully buffing up while cloaked (APA, APO, GDF, Tactical Team), then they decloak and add APB, FOMM, Sensor Scan, whatever that adds to attack or adds debuffs on a player. It can make short work of people, even if they have full shield and hull resistance active.

I been a victim of these types of attacks and I seen this tactic in use so many times, I had enough and made that Cloaked Ambush thread in the PvP forum. Canonically, there is no power to weapons or shields on a cloaked vessel. I hope Cryptic sees this thread and decides to take action.

Ya know you can hear all that "buffing"....lol. They all make sounds when someone is behind you getting ready to hit you...

Its all about shield mitigation, and quick response time. A tac team or RSP will allow you to survive the really scary alpha's 90% of the time if you can pop them quick enough. The last thing this game needs is more nerfs to DPS ships/abilities. Healing and resistances are extreme in this game, w/o a sci around it can be close to impossible to kill some zombie cruisers.

About the hacking thing, Hax is just something ppl say in this game when they don't understand how they died. While they're are some bugs ect that tend to be exploited, I have yet to experience any "hacks"...and If they were in game, the forum would be the last place you'd want to discuss them, not only because its against the forums rules and regs, but because then pvp would be ruined while we wait for patches ect... submitting a bug report would be the way to go.....if in fact thats whats actually going on, which again, in 1 1/2 years of playing this game i've never seen.

I hope they don't, the sudden devestating attack from cloak is pratically a hallmark of cloaking vessels. it's very thematic
