I (DEFINATLY) favor 1: Dont make it.
And that for multible reasons:
1. We FINALLY have SOME variaty. Whats the purpose of going back to a very limitet number of ships?
2. We payed for our t5s. They would be worthless then.
3. What benefit would t6 ships have? Honestly, most people have issues to keep track with the big number of BO skills and Captains skills they have. Just last week I made Cure with a guy who played since beta and FORGOT about having Tactical Initative in space.
So even MORE abilitys? Nobody benefits here. And we already will get more usable skills through the first officer system.
More hull? Shields? Weapons? Well the basicly ONLY sense would be the t6 ships generally stronger, nothing realy NEW in terms of gameplay. That would add NOTHING and take away the t5 ships we have and want to fly.
The Tier systems sucks anyway, but at least in the end-content we do not depend on it that much now...
You realize all three of the options presented addressed this concern?
With the assumption they'd actually follow what the OP was after.
The only way we can *guarantee* nothing is obsolesced is by simply sticking to T5 as the top tier. Just because someone asks for something on the forums doesn't mean that's how it'll go down in practice.
I think they might be best with sticking to Tier 5 but experiment more with different console and station layouts, and they should add a few consoles with special abilities that you can attach to a ship (Some ship or class specific, some generic).
They will need to do something about the Bird of Prey that is now inevitably losing out when everyone can mix and match his BOs.
Adding even more BO powers for a new rank (and that's basically what you need to do make it feel "new") just makes the game more unwieldy. If they really wanted to add new Tier 6 ships with "better" BO configurations, they would have to also offer Tier 6 retrofits of all existing ships, otherwise a lot of people will be bummed by the useless costumes and ships the bought in the C-Store.
