1. I haven't ranked up a character in over 7 months, but when I did fed side it was almost strickly escorts for all captain types, the ability to use cannons and just blow through NPCs in literally seconds made leveling very easy. KDF side of course it was always the BoP, I threw in a cruiser once in a while to see how it did but I always went back to the BoP same reasons as above. Might add I have at least one captain type of each class on both sides all max level. I do PvE, group and PvP. I rarely solo.

2. At cap I primarly fly the class of ship that matches my captain class, ie. eng/cruis, sci/sci, tac/esc. However I do have four capped feds and out of those four two fly cruisers. KDF side I did have my science in a carrier until last week when I moved him back into a BoP. So now all three guys are in a BoP, and again I do pve, pvp, and group stuff.

3. All of the cruiers, as I like to call it in PvP cruisers online, especially fed side. Survivibility of them makes them the optimal choice really for end game as sad as it is. Also the MVAM ranks right up there for escorts, they are almost impossible to kill. One note about the science ships with the correct setup on them it is impossible to bring down their shields. But sometimes bleed through takes care of that anyhow. Carrier also rank right up here, but again they are more like a hybrid science/cruiser ship aren't they, giving them the best of both worlds. This is for every aspect of the game to, pve, pvp and grouping.

4. Under powered, hmm I would have to say the sovereign, here your suppose to have the mighty federations best ship in the fleet and honestly I think the star cruiser and excelsior have it beat hands down, and yes I have flown all three. I also can not wrap my head around why escorts have more hull then science ships.

5. Long range science ship ablative armor is a great ability. Its about the only ability on a ship that is worth a damn honestly. The rest of them are so so, I fly a MVAM and took out the console to seperate in favor of an extra science console. I fly the bops just because of the station layout and console layout. Excelsior for cruiser because honestly who wants another ensign station on anything, 90% of ensign skills are worthless to be honest.

PS. I do think the ships that need the most attention are cruisers.

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Miranda
Nova
Akira
Defiant (PVP/PVE) and Galaxy (PVE)

2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Defiant Retrofit (PVP/PVE/STF) or Sovereign (PVE)

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
Cruisers

4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
Science Vessels, you don't see them as often; also I found my T5 defiant a little squishy.

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?
Please god I'd love an Akira at T5! You can classify it as an escort retrofit.
Nova class as a Science Retrofit at T5 would be epic, I'd fly it.
Perhaps New Orleans for Cruiser Retrofit at T5 anyone?

90% solo, 10% group; Pure PvE:

1: Escorts and lots of them. More dps makes leveling quicker. People who can't solo PvE in escorts are bads.

2: All four characters are VAs whose ships are fully geared and spec'd in Mk 11 purples/blues.
Dunton: Star Cruiser
Shanya: Advanced Escort (not MVAM)
Amryine: Advanced Escort (not MVAM)
Rogette: Fleet Escort

3: Overpowered Ships:
-Tactical Escort Refit: Cloaking is an incredible advantage over other T5 escorts.
-Advanced Heavy Cruiser Refit: A very old ship design is outperforming the Assault Cruiser? Too bizarre

4: Underpowered Ships:
-All science vessels, especially the Deep Space Science Vessel & the D'Kyr; science vessels do have amazing potential in the hands of a highly skilled pilot. However, becoming one of those highly skilled pilots is a very tall order that is beyond what the typical STO player is capable of. Science vessels need to be simplified and get a turn rate buff.
-Fleet Escort: Suffers greatly from the lack of a third science BO power. Rogette was an experiment to build a good escort around Overload 3, but Fleet Escorts are outperformed by Advanced Escorts with Target Shields 3 (vs. bosses, like the dreadnoughts at the end of most space fleet actions).
-Assault Cruiser: A ship with only two science BO powers leaves too much room for vulnerabilities, but the Assault Cruiser makes up for it somewhat with all its engineering powers. Still, this not-so-offensive cruiser is inferior to the Advanced Heavy Cruiser Refit.

5: Having three science BO powers is very useful on a ship. Ships with only two have to forego some counter that a science BO power offers (either science team, polarize hull, or hazard emitters). Both the Celestial-class Star Cruiser* and the Prometheous-class Advanced Escort have aesthetic appeal to me.

* BTW, in the kitbash details in ship customization, the Celestial-class Star Cruiser's parts are referred to as Vanguard-class parts instead. The Celestial-class Star Cruiser is also referred to as the Vanguard-class in the Foundry. Please correct these typos.

P.S. Death to the T5 Connie.

1 and 2. Tac PVE: Flew escorts all the way up. Fleet escort at level cap. Both group and solo content
Eng PVE: Cruisers all the way up. Excelsior at level cap. Both group and solo content.
Sci PVE: Sci ships all the way up. Intrepid-R at level cap. Both group and solo content.
Eng PVP: Cruisers all the way up. Star cruiser at level cap (least favorite aesthetically). Primarily group support.

3. None.
4. None.
5. Favorites: Aesthetically would be the Defiant, the Intrepid, the Akira, the Constitution. Station config would be excelsior.

Cruisers every time. Primarily PvE, with a mix of both group and solo play.

I currently fly an Assault Cruiser (Sovereign), but I did try the Star Cruiser and Retrofit Exploration Cruiser at varything points. I dabble in PvP now and then, but I primarily play PvE, both in groups and solo.

I'll let the full time PvPers battle this question out with respect to PvP, but Escort capts will probably say that cruisers are OP, Cruiser caps will probably say science ships are overpowered, and so forth.

In PvE, the ships that I really feel are overpowered are :

1.The Excelsior (b/c of its superior turn rate to the Sovereign while maintaining equal consoles...I understand the BOff slots are a bit of an even tradeoff. That one point of turn rate with no negative REALLY annoys me, however).

2. The MVAM refirt (the Lt. Cmdr Sci + Cmdr. Tac is just an evil combination in capable hands).

The Exploration Cruiser refit is a real disappointment to me. Slowest turn rate of the top teir cruisers coupled with a gimmicy special ability. Saucer sep can be fun, but its a novelty at best. Why give a ship an ability to become like an escort without at least 3 tac consoles???

There are three things I love about the Assault Cruiser. First and foremost is the survivability, due to the BOff configuration and cruiser bonuses. I love being able to soak up the damage and not go down. Second is the three tactical consoles. It alows me to have some bite to my ship and complete PvE content in a reasonable amount of time. Third is the looks. The sleek lines of the Sovereign are very hard to argue with.

None

4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
Galaxy Class and all derivatives of. Horrendous turning rate and maneuverability easily caught and killed PvP. All but tier0 and tier1 ships can survive in PvE even on Elite if used correctly, and the lowest Tier are still survivable if you are smart and use all your abilities.

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?
Excelsior- Turn rate and Transwarp feature and on Refit- Console layout and Crew layout make it a match for most ships and slightly better than pre-Excelsior release ship designs.

All the ships with special abilities on removable consoles are excellent..The older ships should get some special ability with those offered as upgrade... Also they should be able to apply to at least one type of each class.. Exp..Imp-Transwarp console... able to put on any Retrofit-T5 cruiser + Retrofit Intrepid + Retrofit Defiant=Carriers, Negh'var, Marauder, Varanus and heavy Raptors....That would be excellent.. Exp. Imp Sub-System Targeting...Made into console for Retrofit T5 Science+ Retrofit Galaxy and MVMA AdvEscorts + D'Kyr= KDF as well Varanus, Carriers, Marauder and Vor'Cha retrofits.

Also cloaking devices should be made into a device slot item..not console..that would give KDF ships the reason they are all shorted device slots and a corresponding increase in device slots should be given. With Battle cloak limited to all BOPs' and shuttles and Heavy Raptors. The Enhanced battle cloak limited as a console to all BOPs' and shuttles. Cloak for Dreadnaught and DefiantRetrofit also as a console also useable on Oberth and shuttles.

Well that is my ideas any questions ask away.

1.
I switched, tried something different each rank... science at LtC, Cruiser at Comm, Escort at Captain.I mostly played solo PvE, with occasional bits of PvP.

2.
I'm in a state of permanent indecision, but i prefer science vessels right now. Again, mostly solo PvE but looking to get into PvP. I hav e flown nearly every ship type so far though.

3.
Escorts have, in my opinion, a huge acvantage in solo PvE as they kill many enemies in the first pass, and thus clear content much more quickly.

4.
Not sure here, but I always feel like science ships lack the oomph to be of much use in PvE.
Also i find the BO skill choices for low-level cruisers to be somewhat poor.

5.
I really liked the looks and feels of the Nova-class. Coming from the light cruiser, i found that ship to be both powerful and good-looking. Wouldn't mind seeing a T5 version of that either (U.S.S. Rhode Island).

Specific questions:
1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?

I have had my Oberth from ensign to commander. Now on the Nebula. I only PvE, (not due to anything wrong with PvP, its the PvP community that i find unpleasant) Also i usually solo, it is after all my personal star trek series. Group is ok but rare.

]2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?

My VA usually flies either the Excelsior refit or the Galaxy X. Again solo PvE.

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?[

I don't think any specific ship is overpowered, although cruisers are quite durable.

4Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?

Science ships are underpowered when compared to cruisers and escorts but they should be since they are science ships. The only issue I might see with a science ship is the target subsystems ability. I can never tell if I managed to take out a subsystem or not. (Unless it was the engines in which case the other ship stops moving.) :p That being said i don't know how effective the target subsystem ability actually is and thus it may be underutilized.

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?

My favorite ship is the Oberth due to its aesthetics, small size and crew, and being a non combat science ship. Mind you, you have to consider the lower hull to basically be a mission pod and not a habitable area. Then again there is the excelsior refit with the transwarp to most places that is hard to compete with.

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
-I flew the science vessels on my sci captain and cruisers on my eng. My sci was typically solo until admiral in PvE and PuG only in PvP. My eng was typically in a group doing mainly PvE until Admiral when i PvPed with him.

2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
-My sci flies an intrepid refit: primarily PvP and always grouped. My eng flies a Star cruiser evenly distributed between PvP and PvE always grouped.

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
-The MVAM is the only one due to an excessive amount of DPS compared to the survivability of its extra sections, requiring a dramatic change in strategy to face compared to any other escort-type ship. However i don't believe it is game breakingly powerful, just more powerful than the other ships in game. PvP perspective.

4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
-Assault cruisers are weaker at their role than the excelsior is, though they can still be effective. The advanced escort also feels far weaker than the other federation escorts in a PvP scenario.

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.? I fly the ships i do due to the combination of powers I can get. consoles and special abilities come in next, then the performance (turn rate etc) and finally the look of the ship.

1. Among the many, maaannyyy characters I ranked up in this game, I probably flew every ship. Though I tend to stay "in-specialty", meaning engineers fly cruisers and so on.

2. Excelsior, DKyr, Fleet Escort, MVAM Escort, Nebula. I dont do PvP. Solo most of the times, rarely teaming for dailys. Of course I do the STFs in a team.

3. No idea about PvP. Tactical cubes are OP () Imo none of the player ships are OP.

4. None (fed-side)

5. I like many ships visually (though the warp ring on the DKyr is still not affected by set visuals). I storngly dislike that some special powers are very circumstantial, yet deprive me of a console slot. Id rather see those powers as option (a.k.a. consoles i can use or not). 3 Ensign slots of the same division are also rather hard to put to good use.
