Hey guys,Specific questions:
1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?
I leveled all my characters via the "default" ships; escorts for tacticals, cruisers for engineers, and science vessels for scientists.

At cap I mostly fly a fleet escort with my Tactical character. Mostly I PvE, and PvP just a bit. When I group, it's always a random public group.

Many of the Klingon ships appear overpowered at this time. A cursory glance at SpiderMitch's ship charts for tier 5 certainly gives this impression. The raptor is just like the fleet escort, except it has a stronger hull. The battle cruisers are just like the fed cruisers, except they equip dual cannon, turn better, and have more crew. The Orion cruiser is just like a star cruiser, except it has fighter support and more crew.

Science vessels are underpowered. Cruisers set the firepower standard with 8 weapons. Escorts equip dual cannons to keep parity with only 7 weapons, and then punch ahead of cruisers due to commander and lt commander tactical boff abilities. Science vessels are far behind with only 6 weapons. This means that high level science boff abilities not only need to be just as good as comparable engineering and tactical abilities, they also need to make up for 2 missing weapons. Gravity well 3 needs to affect the enemy just as adversely as a tricobalt torpedo or repeated conventional torpedoes that occur over the same 1 minute cooldown. I know players get annoyed when a well aimed tyken's rift or viral matrix shuts them down, but at present there is NO situation in which I would take a science vessel over a comparably equipped cruiser or escort.

My favorite part of the ships are the exterior aesthetics. The ship I assembled from various fleet escort parts looks great, and the visible weapon ports pretty much match what I have equipped.

It's BO layout is different (and worse, most would say), and something Spidersmith's charts unfortunately don't reflect well is that the Federation Escorts get more shields than the Klingon Escorts.)

Crew has unfortunately basically no meaning. The Orion's special ability fighters is not that great, unfortunately, though I wouldn't necessarily call a single science console great either.
The Vor'Cha has less hull than the Assault Cruiser. The Neg'Var is closest to the Exploration Cruiser Retrofit, but the Retrofit has a special ability that can bring its turn rate way beyond that of the Neg'Var.

I am not necessarily saying you're wrong they seem better, but I know from context, the often simply are not. I think one the primary reasons is because KDF strategies look different from Federation strategies, and that makes certain aspects of a ship's stats more or less important. KDF strategies are build around their cloak -that means any ship that doesn't have cloak is a potential liability. It also is based on hit & run - that makes it every difficult to run effective healer builds, as your allies are constantly zooming in and out. So you want your Cruiser to be build more for a high DPS role (though DHCs are still not that great, despite the higher turn rate of Neg'Var and Vor'Cha) and to work as a "bait" for your enemies. That also means that you at least could use a better turn rate. On the Federation Side, you can build and play effective healers as people usually stay togther

That all mostly applies to PvP. In PvE, a thing like cloak is not that relevant (unless you don't have to kill anyone), but the turn rate and different weapon options might make a difference. (Though maybe not as much... NPCs don't tend to maneuver much, and the BO layout of the AC and SC at least beat the Neg'Vars.)

1:

Tac : Light Cruiser - Escort - Heavy Escort - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvP/PvE/Group/solo
Tac : Light Cruiser - Escort - Heavy Escort - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvP/PvE/Group/solo
Tac : Light Cruiser - Cruiser - Heavy Cruiser - Tactical Escort - Assault Cruiser - PvP/PvE/Group/solo
Eng : Light Cruiser - Cruiser - Heavy Cruiser - Exploration Cruiser - Star Cruiser - PvP/PvE/Group/solo
Sci : Light Cruiser - Cruiser - Heavy Cruiser - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvP/PvE/Group/solo

2:

Tac : Galaxy Retrofit
Tac : Excelsior
Tac : Not at cap yet
Eng : Deep space Science
Sci : Tactical Escort Retrofit

3:

PvE : All ships in PvE are overpowered.. Or NPCs are too underpowered, take your pick.

PvP : No ships in PvP are overpowered.. A few ships might need minor adjustments (like MVA stats or the Intrepid Refit armor), but nothing is major (Its more some of the BO abilities (or combinations thereof) that breaks stuff - Ideally Id like to see sustained Science and Engineering abilities drain from the using ship.. Extend shield should have a shielddrain on the ship using it, as should many of the Science powers, additionally should all these skills have a cost in form of Shield or Aux power (like weapons).

4:

PvE : No ships are underpowered, every single bit of PvE content, with the obvious exception being groupcontent (STF Cubes, Bosses, FA Bosses) are trivial, even on Elite setting.

PvP : Mmm.. Every ship I can think of is viable, in their specific roles (obviously you cannot compare a DSSV with a MVA in DPS or a Tactical Escort with a Starcruiser in tankiness)..

5:

I simply love the look of the Recon Science Vessel.. Particulary with the Reman shield equipped.

1. My two officers have ranked up solely on escorts and raptors.
2. I fly a Fleet Escort, Assault Cruiser and a Guramba Siege Destroyer
3. I do not believe any ships are currently overpowered, but I stink at PVP so every ship beats me up.
4. The Guramba is under powered. The loss of a console slot added to the already severe limitations with siege mode is just not a balanced choice for that ability. Most captains I know opt to just not use siege mode entirely but then you're still faced with being down a console. The Assault Cruiser feels ill fitted for offense, especially when now put next to the new Excelsior-R. I'm not sure if that makes it underpowered as a whole, but it certainly feels underpowered in that role.
5. I love the Guramba's aesthetics and its special ability looks awesome, I also like it's bridge officer set up. I like the pendulous turn ratio of the Assault Cruiser, not so slow as the top tier Galaxy's but still slow enough to feel significant, even dignified. I like the Dervish aesthetics to and obviously like its bridge officer set up.

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Tac --> Light Cruiser - Escort - Heavy Escort - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvE/solo
Tac --> Light Cruiser - Escort - Heavy Escort - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvE/solo
Sci --> Light Cruiser - Escort - Heavy Escort - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvE/solo
Sci --> Light Cruiser - Escort - Heavy Escort - Tactical Escort - Fleet Escort - PvE/solo
Eng --> Light Cruiser - Cruiser - Heavy Cruiser - LRSV - DSSV - PvE/solo

2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Tac --> AHCR / PvP group
Tac --> MVAE / PvP group
Sci --> MVAE / PvP group
Sci --> LRSVR / PvP group
Eng --> Star Cruiser / PvP group
sometimes PvE solo for Deuterium, gear, emblems

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
PvE --> All. NPCs are too easy to overcome.
PvP --> none.

4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
PvE --> none.
PvP --> Escorts. Damage should be increased, I'd like to see the bleedtrhru from cannons doubled to overcome excessive shield hardening.

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?
Advanced Escort w/ multivector console. Nice console / station layout, fun to fly in MV mode.
Starcruisers (Vanguard) - cool design

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Mostly all cruisers and i'm actually leveling a tac/escort
2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?
Assault crusier/tactical escort
3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
Excelsior
4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?
Assault cruiser, since the console nerf with season 2 and varius turning rate nerfs(i think in preparation for the excelsior), can't bring out the dps i would like to see from an ASSAULT cruiser.. you took away meaning from the name, crippling the basic design of my build: that's why i'm leveling a tact/escort.
5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?

I like the cloacking for the tact escort, the mvam, as aesthetic dunno, never got a look good, station configuration i like the assault cruiser, no redundant ensign station almost useless, and a good amount of consolle slots for tact and sci(like the way it was supposed to, it was meant to deal dps.)

1. What ship(s) did you fly as you ranked up? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?

ENG VA ==> Light Cruiser, Science Vessel, Cruiser, Cruiser (Envoy), Assault Cruiser. 70% PvE 30% PvP ranking up. 90% solo.
TAC VA ==> Light Cruiser, Escort, Escort, Tac Escort, Adv Escort. 70% PvE 30% PvP ranking up. 90% solo.
Sci LtCom ==> Light Cruiser, Escort. 70/30 pve to pvp, 90% solo

2. What ship(s) do you fly at cap? For each, primarily PvE, PvP or both? Group or solo?

My ENG VA flies a Star Cruiser right now, but as my first capped toon he has flown almost all of the T5 ships except the Galaxies, Intrepid-R and Nebula (Assault Cruiser, Star Cruiser, Fleet Escort, Adv Escort, Def-R, RSV, DSSV). 70/30 pve to pvp, 90% solo

My TAC VA flies an Adv Escort with MVAM Console right now. He has flown all of the T5 escorts though at one time or another. 70/30 pve to pvp, 90% solo

3. Which ship(s) do you think are currently overpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?

All the ships are overpowered in PvE except Sci ships in certain circumstances. I hesitate to say this because I like doing PvE quickly for my emblems

In PvP I have not found any ships to be overpowered. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses which are exploited to varying degrees by the playerbase.

4. Which ship(s) do you think are currently underpowered? PvE, PvP, or both? Specifically why?

I don't think any ships are underpowered in PvE really. Only ones that come close are the Sci ships, but they really just end up taking longer.

In PvP my opinion is that Science ships are a tad underpowered. This is only because the Sci ships tend to 'need' a bit more coordinated play to do as well as cruisers and escorts. I have found cruisers and escorts to be more forgiving in PUGS especially.

5. What feature of your favorite ships do you like the most? As in, console configurations, station configurations, aesthetics, special abilities, etc.?

Wow, tough question I like engineering consoles the most because there is just more you can do there. My Sci and Tac consoles tend to get 'locked in' and not changed much. I am enjoying the universal consoles on my BOP because of the different configs they offer (not OP imo btw). For some reason I really like the look of the DSSV with no pod I've been able to tweak my cruisers and escorts enough to where I like the looks usually. Star Cruiser can seem a bit 'elongated'...I like the Nomad saucer, but not the part of the hull that dips down like a tail...that always threw me. The hephaestus Adv Escort skin is ok, I do use that. I bought the maelstrom skin for the Fleet and use it but it is a bit meh...I really did not like the Imperial skin for the Assault Cruiser. Anyway, as you can see I am rambling. Will stop now

VA Salal, Fed. Science Officer

1.
Lt. - Miranda
Lt. Cmdr. - Nova
Cmdr. - Excelsior / Nebula
Cpt. - Excelsior / Nebula
LA - Sovereign / Nimbus
VA - Sovereign / Galaxy

2. Mostly Sovereign-class, but also Galaxy and Excelsior, depending on type of mission

3. Escorts deal in general too much damage, which is ok regarding gameplay, but non-canon. The Akira-class was never described as an Escort, equipping her with cannons and flying her like the Defiant is almost ridiculous.
The Excelsior is nice, but overpowered on a story level. An Excelsior cruiser an match the Sovereign as well as Galaxy and Akira, although it is much older and should be at least not stronger.

4. The Akira deserves to be endgame-content. Memory-Alpha describes her as a heavy cruiser with a large hangar deck. None of this is respected in the game, she is smaller and weaker than she should be, her firepower should exceed e.g. the Excelsior by far.
A major problem are the science vessels. Their abilities are fancy gimmicks, but mostly useless compared to the cost of lower firepower and tactical capabilities. I would like to have a free Officer slot like on the Nebula-class on the other science vessels as well to compensate - equipped with a second tactical officer, things look much different.

5. I like the second tactical station on the Sovereign, as a third ensign engineer (like on the Galaxy) is useless. But I miss a special skill for the Sovereign, it used to be one of the best ships of her time, but lacks any special ability. What about a 360 phaser burst as seen on Nemesis? Or a metaphasic shield (ok, that could easily overpower her).

The Galaxy-class saucer-separation is great - and not useless, as some claimed above. The saucer makes an excellent tank and the battle section deals good damage.

1. For Arthurious: Light Cruiser, Science Vessel, Advanced Heavy Cruiser, Long Range Science Vessel, Dreadnought Cruiser, Refit Long Range Science Vessel, Advanced Research Vessel, Refit Tactical Escort, MVAM Advanced Escort.

2. Advanced Science Ship for Groups, Dreadnought Cruiser for Fleet Actions and Solo, MVAM Advanced Escort and Refit

3. I'd have to say the MVAM escort can be powerful at times in PvE. I've never used the ship in pvp. Mostly due to the extra two escorts supporting.

4. Again I can't really comment as to which ships are under or over powered.

5. Advanced Research Vessel - supports a my play style and desired role of support / healer in space. The Engineering stations really provide the healing abilities I'm looking for while I'm still able to access all of the necessary science abilities. The Tachyon Detection Grid is lackluster but provides a small bonus to my sensor scan.

I also don't mind the look of the Nebula as it is part of the Galaxy class family.

Dreadnought Cruiser - My spec does not support this ship so I only provide a few basic talents that modify my performance when I taker my Dreadnought out into space. The cloaking device is probably one of the redeeming features of this ship, for me anyway. It's nice being able to simply cloak and fly past all the trash in Fleet Actions.

The turn rate on the Dreadnought is pretty poor though my skills don't aid the ship in that regard so I cannot complain too much.

The Phaser Lance is cool but I rarely get to use it, inopportune times, low turn rate and a high cooldown all contribute.

Overall I still love the look of this ship and would love to kitbash a Galaxy IV.

Refit Long Range Science Vessel - Great turn rate, really great survival skill (Ablative Armor Generator) and a great looking ship.

I really can't think of anything seriously wrong with this ship apart from the Ensign Science Station that rarely has anything useful for me. In PvP I'd likely fill that station with Polarize Hull or Mask Energy Signature but since I don't pvp it has little use to me.

Refit Tactical Escort - Another great ship, the cloak is handy for getting past annoying adds, easy to fly and great looking. Again the Ensign tactical slot has little use to me.

MVAM Advanced Escort - I currently use this ship to do my dailies on the advanced setting. The squish aspect of the ship is easily over come by the added support from the other components. Another good looking ship and most important of all, I can't find anything wrong with the bridge officer stations.

1. I've flown almost every ship out there. I PvE till I reach VA. Then I PvP so my experience with PvP is pretty much only at the VA stage. Do some Kerrat at lower levels. For leveling I mostly solo because I feel like I can actually keep a faster pace by myself (dont need to give directions or wait).

3. If anything, Klingon Carriers who are piloted by an Engineer or Sci are crazy. The ability to spam pets like they do, their large hull coupled with their captains abilities to spam heal. If I had to pick one thing it would be them though Im not sure it is THAT overpowered actually since the shield nerf and Sci's were affected less so but still affected. I see a lot of people talk about balance but Im not sure there is validity to a lot of what gets asked to be nerfed. For instance I just saw a thread where the author was asking for the Defiant to be nerfed because he gets beat badly everytime he sees one. I disagree. I mostly play my Sci chars and have no trouble beating a lot of defiant pilots with my Intrepid. You simply need to know your tactics, ships, powers and captains abilities. I may be one of the few people who think this but I do think this game does fairly well at keeping things balanced. Im not one of those who thinks a power needs to be nerfed just because I get beaten by someone. I just rethink my strategy.

4. I would like to say the Intrepid R because that is what I use the most. The truth is that would be a lie. My survivability is already great and I can usually take down my opponents in 1 vs. 1 no matter their class. I've had a lot of practice with that ship however and can understand why people may think it needs an upgrade who are still new to the ship. However, having said that Im starting to believe that the Ablative armor is sort of junk. Think about it, there are so many things that can take it off line by disabling the ship for a short duration. Photonic Shcokwave, target Aux, Viral matrix, tricobalt torpedos etc. I find it useful about 50% of the time I deploy it. I dont believe shortening the timer on it is a fix either. Ive recently switched to a Recon sci because I'm starting to feel it may actually be superior to the Intrepid given the many ways to remove the ablative armor. The recon gains an extra console and more turn. On the other hand, Ablative armor can work some of the time and a few pilot's are getting smarter about how to strip it off. I'm probably letting the cat out of the bag for those who say it needs nerfed. It's great when it works but thats not all the time. Someone nails it with a PSW or tric and all concentrate fire. Intrepid go boom. Ablative armor doesn't need nerfed. It already is.

5. Well...it would be cool to see more ships with Universal BOff slations. Gives you a little more room for customizing and experimenting with builds. I'd like to see ships being thought of in terms of classes for a specific career completely disappear. More customization available to us all if every ship at VA and RA had a Lt or Ensign Universal BOff slot. Preferably Lt.
