It will still pose an advantage to go up (for everyone), as it means the enemy takes longer to get to you, as he can never use his full speed to reach there (as some component of his speed is always directed to the horizontal). But it is even an advantage in the moment-to-moment combat maneuvering, so that long-term drawback will probably be not be taken in mind.

To really fix this, Cryptic would have to go full 3D. And they don't want that, and most likely will never do it. Apparently, the 21st century casual player just can't handle full 3D.

It was one thing I was kind of disappointed in when the game came out. And it's especially annoying while using Dual/Dual Heavy Cannons how some one can just go up, and I can't point my ship to be directly underneith him. Makes those types of Cannons seem laughable compared to Beams. Since Beams don't have the same issue that cannons do.

It would honestly be nice if Escorts and Raider class ships were given Full 360 degrees of freedom.

Back when the heat really came on about this and they said "we don't want to confuse our average player". I laughed, because no one could possibly be that stupid and still be a gamer.

Then I went to kerrat early this morning and watched a Defiant and a Gal X, have a hard time handling 4 probes and one sphere.

Just think about how failtastic the average PvEer is. Then realize that 50% of the population is worse than them.

I've posted it before there needs to be some kind of mechanic that keeps the players away from the borders and celling / floor of space map

Best option would likely be putting an invisible gravity well in the centre of every map. The further away from the centre you go, the stronger the pull.

The pull shouldn't come into effect until you within 20k of the border, and when your within 5k of the border the pull should be so strong that its impossible to move any closer.

Either that or make whoever touches the border get a warp core breach and explode.

While it will probably look stupid, another angle (pun intended) to "fix" this could be to raise the firing arc to 60 for DCs and DHCs.
