The general consensus has been that PVP at lower tiers is pretty fun, largely because there are fewer abilities to chose from. Right now the powers bar doesn't really have enough space to accommodate much more as it is, lol. Unleashing additional Commander level skills might sound fun on the surface but it's going to be a bear to balance.

I actually kind of like an earlier idea of having a First Officer provide stat bonuses but it shouldn't be anything static. If you could determine from a list of options relating to your First Officer's career choice, like how we pick traits for our own Captains, that might be interesting. A Tactical First Officer might pick from a list to add raw damage or accuracy to a weapon type, greater resistance boost to tactical debuffs, passive resistance to boarding parties, altered recharge rate on weapons, or something like that.

Something along these lines? (What?! A guy can't have a shameless plug every once in awhile? :p There are cookies in the thread, so, it's all good. Note: It IS a really old thread, so, no necromantic antics!)

I would be more in favor of the passively provided bonus, as well... However, if an 'active' power is the way that they end up going, it really should be something unique, rather than a pre-existing BOff skill... (Imagining every Escort in the game with PSW makes me: )

While i am looking forward to the Doff system, the first officer has just become a complete turn off... based on past experience. This just sounds horrible..

Thankfully prediction about unbalancing gimmicks are quickly raised during beta testing, brought to the developers attention, and never make it to holodeck. Worst case they are easy and swiftly addressed should they make it into game.....

In canon, since TNG and with the introduction of programmable LCARS bridge stations, it should have become standard to starfleet ships to have universal BO slots.
Just saying.

I think that this whole "Bridge Officer slot" game mechanic is a little inappropriate to a Star Trek game.
The Abilities a ship has should be more console or technical founded.
Stuff like attack patterns should be real ships maneuvers that enhance stuff like defense or attack, i think that it would be ok to make them BO based abilities IMO.

I really dont like universal bridge officer slots, surely a bop and the nebula have them but dont make them into every ship I think its better to restrict abit of setups.


Cruiser with uni bridge officer slot is gonna be out of wack, either its gonna be a powerhouse of healing power, or if you go with additional tactical powers its gonna get faw3 hiy3 beta3, I don't think its a good idea either way.

Escort will become even more offensive with science powers or heals, or lets see EPTS3 escorts, dem3 all cannon boats with tactical powers to boost them.

Science ships unfortunaly would really in my oppinion be vaild to take the engineer, EPTS3, Aux2sif3, additional stations towards extend.
